New Car Delay Questions - can anybody explain a few things pls....

Featured Replies

Hi

Ordered new Superb Elegance Estate end of July.

Was given October delivery date - no exact date just the month wrote on the order form.

Had telephone call from dealer today stating that my car has no build date yet and its looking unlikely to be an October delivery now and could be pushed back.

The reason he stated is that they had exceeded (the dealership) their orders last month and this has a knock on effect - can anybody expand on this? I had to rush off the telephone as I was working and did not understand it?

Also - as my order form has October delivery date wrote on it - can I cancel the car if it is not delivered on time (I really do not want to do this but I Ieave the country in November for a few weeks and would want it all signed and sealed before then so my partner can use the vehicle)

Finally at what point do I have to give the personalised number plate retention document to the dealership - I have just sent re-newal to dvla as it expires on 9th September - so hopefully should be back with me soon.

Thank for any help you can offer me..............

Dave

Hi Dave,

Have a look at this previous topic ref quotas http://www.briskoda....ta#entry2782616

I've got an Elegance estate and it took 11.5 months to arrive. It's a 170PS DSG both of which contributed to the delay (also have pano roof amongst a dozen options but don't think that's much of a problem these days). I think my biggest delays came from Skoda's quota system (you've just got to be lucky or have knowledge of dealer quota usage) and the engine/gearbox combo, along with some dealer ****ups along the way. My build date went backwards once, then disappeared completely, then reappeared with later build, and they don't get confirmed until a couple of weeks before it actually gets built.

Apart from the quotas your spec will make a difference especially engine & gearbox, but it will be worth it in the end. Had mine for 3 months now and love it...still amazed at the DSG box and speed of gear change.

Just another thought...........

My car was valued with a part ex price back in July - what if order keeps getting pushed back and back - will this value stand - or will it be re-appraised?

Finance and Deposit(0%) was all based on trade in value.

I looked at that thread re-quotas - does it mean that dealers are only allowed to order a certain number of new vehicles every month - if that is the case then surely they knew they were at their quota when they took my order? Or have I completely mis-understood?

Dave

Dave,

I think it means that if the dealer was into their next month's quota when you ordered then your order might get delayed by up to a month as a result. However, it might not be that bad. You said you ordered at the end of July so if they were just into their August quota it might not have much effect. You'll need to ask the dealer for a detailed explanation as they see it.

As for you trade-in, I'm sure it'll depend on whether you've got a guaranteed price and what any paperwork actually says. If you've actally got a price written down as part of the deal leaving a balance to pay on delivery then I'd expect them to honour it. Depends what it says though.

As for your reg retention doc, the dealer will just need that a few days before so they can get it taxed...just sign it and leave the date for them to fill in when they tax the car.

Hi

Thank you for the explanantion re-quotas - but surely the dealer would know when he took my order that he had used up all his July slots - and therefore my car would not be passed on until an August slot - therefore making an October delivery highly unlikely?

Bearing in mind the factory shutdown in August I was told about as well..............these stories of 11 month waits are beginning to worry me.

Dave

They don't really know a delivery date until they submit your order and then get a confirmed build date from factory. Even then the factory can push date back, so salespeople give you an estimate based on how long it has taken to deliver similar cars before.

Unfortunately this is what happens when you order a car that needs to be built to spec and not off stock.

Cheers

Steve

I would expect the dealer to be able to give you a fairly accurate estimate for the delivery date, but as has already been mentioned the actual delivery date can change right up the week that it is built.

What seems less acceptable is that the dealer did not advise you about the extra up front delay due to their quota limits at the time that you placed your order. That is something that they know when they take the order.

Earlier in the year I placed an order for a Superb Elegance with some factory fitted options and the dealer told me straight away that delivery would be 6+ months due to them reaching their quota.

I spoke with a different dealer and they quoted an estimated 13-15 weeks for delivery. In the end I got it within 8 weeks of placing the order!

If I was you I would consider asking other dealerships for delivery estimates, and if they are earlier get a refund of your deposit and place a new order.
