great feature on the new fifth gear!

The feature was only reaaly relevant to track driving as opposed to road driving. You dont go hooning round corners on the road whereas a re-map does give a nice extra bit of grunt for overtaking and general satisfaction.

I disagree, fine you don't apex corners in the real world or have the whole road to yourself to play with but being more aware of the handling and how best to drive a particular corner or setup for an overtake without just relying on pure power will improve your road driving.

Sabine yes Suzi no. She hasn't won anything

First woman in the DTM - that's like winning to me!

Of course, Sabine won Nurburgring 24 hrs with a TEAM of drivers

In my whole driving life overtaking on the road is always about power. I have never completed a succesfull overtake by carrying more speed round the previous bend.

Driver training is certainly a good idea but for safety reasons rather than for travelling faster on a public road.

Driving a more powerfull car is always more satisfying hence why most people get re-maps. I doubt anyone gets re-maps to get to work faster. The feeing of fast acceleration is more important than raw numbers i.e i would rather have a car that felt fast but took 8.5 secs to get to 62 as opposed to a car that felt sluggish but managed the same sprint in 7.5 secs. Its all about perception.

Remaps give you this feeling.

I think it was pretty obvious that driver training or sticky tyres would yield better track results compared to a re-map of a NA car.

Yes but maintaining a higher average speed may get you to a position allowing an overtake more quickly, and also being able to power the car better out of a bend straight into an overtake can help as well, but I know what you mean.

Personally I enjoy driving a road well (safely and within my skill level). Straight line speed is easy but planning ahead and being able to negotiate bends and hazardous without constant braking then acceleration is what floats my boat, which includes getting a good overtake in.
