Hi all,

Just found the forum.

Some thoughts on 2 years of owning a Roomster 1.6 TDI SE. It's a 2010 '60 'plate. Apologies for putting 1.9 as header.

I felt I got a good deal and was able to add factory extras without breaking the bank, So good marks to Skoda for that. Plus it's a quirky car with a distinctive profile that appealed to me. I went for the metallic grey and I think it works well.

Some of the extras I went for that I'm appreciating are:

Climate control - first time I've had this and it makes a big difference to comfort. The fans are pretty pokey too and soon clear the windscreen

Turning fog lights - great down our twisty country roads

Maxi-dot- gives you much better information in a sensible display format

MDI - running my iPod through the radio is great

ESP Plus - makes it feel 'tighter' on the road

Great car to drive, comfortable and responsive and the seating flexibility is good. I like the panoramic sunroof, it makes the car feel bright and airy. Nice firm seats with a good profile.

Back seat passengers love the big windows and glass roof and the seats are comfortable.

I personally like the ride height - inbetween saloon and 4x4 - and all my passengers comment that it's an easy car to get in and out of.

I'm 6' 2" and need the driver seat right back. This is the first 'small' car I've owned where I can actually sit behind the driver seat with some legroom. To me that's a big plus point when I'm rear passenger on a long haul.

The rear cabin is like a mini lounge/office. I'm finding it quite useful and I like the middle seat being a table.

I'm lucky in that I've got a sensible VW dash with all the gauges being analogue and nicely laid out. I understand that Skoda abandoned the earlier digital dash layout. I had it on the test drive vehicle and thought it was awful.

Rear parking sensors allied to the display on the radio works very well if a tad sensitive.

Nothing nasty has popped up but here are some observations so far:

Only got 10K on clock, as still hammering an old Octavia for business use prior to retiring, but Roomster mpg is not good 45.25 overall so far. I hope it gets better, as the engine loosens up. I'm planning serious European journeys so, hopefully, I'll add to my experiences of the car.

Why oh why did Skoda remove the chrome internal door handles? Everyone, me included, grumbles about not being able to find the internal door handles at night. Give me a dealer fitted chrome kit Skoda and you've made easy money.

B column width does cause visibility problems and people who are shorter than me notice it more. Take note during the test drive, I can live with it.

When will Skoda put the cigarette lighter nearer to or on the dashboard? I, like many, use sat navs etc. and ended up with a wandering mess of cables. I've taken over one of the front centre unit cupholders with a pretty neat unit. Link below for interest.

Had to plough through the manual to find a way of turning the day running lights on. It's actually obvious once you've got the fuse cover off - a large orange rocker switch. Would have been nice to have it 'on' by default.

Very easy to not shut the boot properly, don't ask me why it just seems that everyone does it, me included. The Maxi-dot helps as it tells the driver if doors are not shut. On the subject of the boot, you need room behind, when parked, to get the boot open. You can't open it on the Eurotunnel Shuttle if you're in the middle of the carriage.

The clumsy security cover that fills the gap between the back of the rear seats and the parcel shelf. If you take any seat out then you're left with a obvious gap and a pretty good view as to what's in the boot, albeit the sunset glass does mean you need to peer in. I ordered a spare cover so I can cobble up a solution when a seat's out.

You can't move the middle seat back, so if you move the two main rear seats back you have a slight overlap that can rub against your leg.

It's me I know but I find the fuel cap fiddly to unlock and it's easy to jam your fingers against the fuel cap cover when refuelling, as the entrance is qute limited. I'd preferred an internal release rather than using the key.
