Engine miss-fire, potentially dangerous wiring on ignition coils and more?

Featured Replies

Speaking from a electrician view, someone has carried out a bodged repair on that cable. Those are thru crimps and they are notorious for bad connections if you don't get them right. I would look at changing it and probably have a scan done on it to see if that is the cause of the misfiring. No doubt some would be along to other further advice. Did you buy it off a garage or private sale?

Hi Preston334

Yeah, i'd totally agree. The coils are all sealed and the other three connect as they should, all nice and snug.

I inherited the car, so there isn't really a come back or questions to be asked of anyone particular. It was off my wife's Dad, and he bought it privately, so perhaps I could ask where from and go from there.

I'm sort of hoping that the black "pipe" where the wires come out of in the pic which has the connectors for the coils can be replaced, assuming that there is a connector somewhere else in the chain and the wires within are not hidden somewhere a little harder to get at.

While looking at it last night, I took it to my Dad (cliche, i know) and he suggested it was wrong... When he moved the cables I started the car, and was able to press the ESP button on the dash and turn it on / off. However, now - it is stuck in on.

Cheers

Quick update on my probs.

A mechanic i know gave me some advice (his garage is miles away so cant look himself) and suggested I buy a coil pack, and go through 1 by 1 to see if thats where the problem is. I have done this, and still no change to my issues.

I've also been to a Skoda garage, who want £96 to run diagnostics, then more after for labour and parts etc. However, they looked at that pic and and said if there was an elec fault previously(which this looks like), that is the same fix they would have done too. They have since suggested a wiring harness replacement would be needed.
