HELP! Maxi-Dot Retrofit, Flashing "O-D"

I tried looking for similar topics but nothing came up.

Anyways, a friend of mine took his 2011 Fabia 1.2TSI into the factory service shop to get a Maxi-Dot cluster retrofitted.

The factory followed the standard procedures of replacing instrument clusters; reset the power steering, ESP, and re-paired the keys with the immobilizer.

heres the problem, the odometer won't show the total mileage.

Instead, it starts flashing "O-D".

Everything else works fine, i can scroll through the menus and make changes.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm not in the UK so i can't contact shark performance.

I've tried but they weren't able to help me since I'm in another country.

Welcome to the forum.

Can your friend not just go back to the Factory Shop and get them to sort it out,? and also get them put the mileage at which the new cluster was installed into the service book for future buyers.

Is the car now in the same country as you, is that Taiwan?

Thanks George,

The factory shops are clueless on how to sort this problem out.

Plus, they use Chinese versions of the VCDS; which makes it more confusing.

and Im not quite sure if it is the BCM's problem or the instrument's problem.

They retrofitted my Yeti's maxi-dot a few months ago with the same problem.

I was only able to resolve it after fiddling around with VCDS settings and now i can't remember how.

Im hoping that its only a matter of resetting the mileage .

If they are a franchise dealer they MUST use VAG equipment surely

Now here is the other interesting thing, they have VAG equipment.

But because it's in English, they can't quite figure out what the options mean.

Im guessing they use the chinese version of VCDS as a supplement to their VAG equipments.

The last time i was there, they spent about an hour retrofitting my Maxi-Dot only to realize that have been selecting the wrong option; instead of choosing Instrument (Replace) they chose Instrument.

So nobody came across this problem (flashing "O-D") when they got their Maxi-dot retrofitted?

Sounds like its simply not been coded correctly, never seen this before though.

if they had used the VAG equipment (all be it in english) then everything is done for you, as it simply copies the coding directly from one cluster to another.

Quick update

Was able to change "O-D" to total mileage but it still flashes.

Thought it might go away after 50 or 100 kilometer; thought wrong.

Had the factory shop run a scan of the car but no error codes

Ran the auto-scan myself with VCDS and no error codes either.

help???

  • 5 months later...

Has anyone found the place in VCDS yet where you can change this particular setting?

I have got the same behaviour with my retrofit (Fabia SE). The mileage starts flashing as soon as I turn the ignition on. I swapped it against the standard MFD (green display). This one is changing the total mileage to the trip when you start moving. So I guess there is somewhere a setting that de-activates/activates exactly that.

I am going to have a go over the weekend, but I hoped that someone could point me in the right direction before I start.

Cheers
