Trader Car Insurance

Featured Replies

I was thinking of doing this as i feel it would be easier, now i am not in the car trade but i know a few people who have managed to get the insurance with out being in the trade,

Anybody on here do this?

Any ideas how to do this haha?

Easier than what exactly?

Surely to get trade insurance you have to prove your business details?

Easier to drive peoples car with insurance than take a massive risk with driving with out? you know the common sense answer to your question.

And to answer the 2nd part, apparantly not as i said a few people i have had passing conversations with at car shows etc have told me that they have it and are not part of the trade hence why i am curious as to if this is possible.

Oh I see. I have driving other vehicles 3rd party on my insurance policy already and have had for the past 4 years.

i have spoken to my insurance about it and seeminly alot of people state you have to be 25 or above for this, this is a couple of years in the future for me so was wanting a quick fix as i tend to buy cars cheap, fix them then sell them after my missies has used them for a while!

Well I've had it since 21, and have been with several insurers.

I had to specifically ask for it with Admiral - but no problems.

I know someone in the trade - and one problem they have is getting pulled over with ANPR, as with their policy, they don't have to declare cars to their insurer.

Obviously they get let on their way when they prove their trade insurance, but it's still an inconvenience.

My dad had trade insurance for over 10 years without actually being in the trade. He explained the situation to the broker (he looks after relatives cars etc) and they put him on to the policy.

When he tried to make a claim (for his own car, thankfully) they demanded evidence of trading, including recent advertisements, invoices etc. Really, really not worth it.

^^ did not realise this!

May have to re think and have a chat with my insurance company again.

Im with elephant who are a sister company to admiral so surely they should be able to replicate it?

Maybe they have changed since then. It was a few years ago now.

i will phone up and make an enquiry, cheers

Also, to drive other cars 3rd party requires that car to be insured elsewhere (i.e. by it's owner).

yeh i knew that hence why i was looking at traders lol

Just checking! Some people believe that they can buy a car, then drive it using their own "3rd party cover" from another car - you see it lots on those POLICE STOP CAMERA CHASE ACTION!!!!!111 programs

yeh thats how i found that out hahaha

A real 'Trade Policy' will have you being in the Car Sales Trade or related business.

That will be holding a 'Car Trade', Second hand traders licence or Permit with your local authority, what ever your Local Council do or Issue.

Advertising your vehicles as for sale by a 'Trader', using vehicles that are declared 'in Trade' with the DVLA, or keeping the Records on your purchases and sales, Keeping reciepts & Invoices and submitting Tax returns to the HMRC.

Not using vehicles as Private Transportation and for Family Members commuting etc.

BUT,

For Sale & display purposes & Road Tests etc, Temp Cover untill the vehicle is sold.

Accompanied by yourself or one of the Employees,or maybe family member, but that will be an named driver on the Trade Policy.

Not a Son or Daughter looking for cheap cover on a sporty car..

Now we all know people with Trade Insurance, that ignore all that,

well they often get caught these days.

re

Driving 3rd party,

2 parts to car Insurance, Minimum is that the Vehicle is Covered in its own right, then the minimum of any driver had 3rd party cover.

Like a Hire car or Leae, Company car, the owners Insure the Vehicle and then the Drivers cover can be on that policy or the Drivers own Insurance.

Only one person can claim in event of an Incident and that usually will be the Vehicles Owner or the Person with the Insurance cover on the Vehicle.

If you have insurance on your own policy & drive another persons car, then that vehicle should 'not be yours',

that is really not yours, not just that you are not the Registered Keeper..

Some Policies like from SAGA allow another non named on the policy driver to drive, with Fully Comp cover in Medical Emergencies etc

If only it were that easy, as side from everything else, its bloody expensive when your under 25 as I found out. Anything that was anywhere near reasonable for cost has a million restrictions on it, you`ll not get away with driving any old mates car without 20 questions if you have an accident/pulled over. I had any car cover on my policy at 18! Company has gone bust now though lol. Just a waiting game i`m afraid.

It's certainly possible - someone at work has it - and we're nothing to do with cars.

He had his Honda Civic Type R stolen when he was about 21 and they paid up without question.

He's asked to test drive my Atom, providing me with a copy of the insurance - and reading it looks like he can!

Aww your a gem haha! Might give them a call!

Hi I had a trade policy last year I told them about my full time job and said I buy and sell cars in my spare time from my home address and everything was fine , I could drive anything including motorbikes and cosworths which most won't cover you for its was a company called tradewise who are within the plangroup insurance company here is the number give them a call no harm in trying 0844 576 5757

People will sell you things, you ask, they ask questions & a sale is made.

That applies to Insurance,

you give the answers and make a declaration & they sell you a policy.

It is a piece of worthless paper. Good for allowing you to drive about & good enough for the Police & ANPR etc.

Just remember that you are probably not really Insured if it comes to a claim.

You might just be paying for the rest of your life.

The Insurance Company or Underwriter will have to Pay out to the 3rd parties,

they will be trying to recover that from you.

If a vehicle covered under a Trade Policy is in an Incident, they will be asking for proof of the Information & Decleration you made.

Record or Car/Vehicle trades & Sales.

As a way of getting Cheap Private Insurance it can cost you much if things go t!t5 up.

"whats the worst that can happen?"

Well it cost me lots,

because my son raced another car in 'my' Civic,

& was caught on the Bus Camera before taking out a lamp post and a New Saab in someones driveway.

The insurance Claim was not processed & i paid out all the costs.

& only my son was prosecuted, banned & had to resit his test.

Charges against me were dropped, luckily.

PS , Before he came to court he got a Peugeot 306 on his mums policy & then slid passed the T junction in the ice.

The Lorry going along the road took the nose off the car.

No problem, it got recovered & scrapped.

Big bill was the roads crew they sent out to clear the road of oil & Antifreeze on the ice,

& all the other bits of cars from previous accidents.that were laying in the verge.

That was a £950 cash pay out to the Road Department.

Trader insurance is for traders, simple as that really. Do not become one of the IN10 stats when you get pulled up and actually have no insurance cover in place. There is no loop hole here.

Good post here. I see it over and over again.
