Turning Babydoll into a MONSTER

Featured Replies

Okay sooooooooooo, it's been a super long time since I last posted on the forum and spoke to anyone and i'm now in a fantastic job with an even more fantastic amount of pay coming my way (which mostly just sits in the bank until I get a day off!!).

Those I've spoken to alot will know just how much work I've had to put into my Mk.1 Fabia since I got her but those who don't i'll write a little intro.

Bought her in March as a non runner - Fabia Mk.1 TDI100PD Comfort

Began working on fixing the engine problem - Replaced Glow Plugs (£46), Engine Temperature Sensor (£23) and finally Brake Light Switch (£8)

Front Nearside Track Rod End replaced (£16)

Engine now fixed, onto the less pressing issues - Drivers side window regulator chewed up to buggery, replaced (£5)

Rear Bumper not securely fitted [To the point where it came off dragging down the motorway and was held on by the rear passenger mudgaurd!!] (15 minutes of unscrewing and screwing bits back together properly)

Mass Air Flow Sensor [This one was my fault for going too fast through a stream and flooding the old one >.<] (£56)

Rear Pads and Discs Replaced (£67)

Rear left door hanging ajar (5 minutes with a screw driver)

Thats just about everything i've done to date so far and now that i'm fairly happy with the way she's holding together and how she's reacting to my tender loving care i'm starting to spruce her up a little bit going in phases.

Phase 1

Improve sound quality, yes this does mean going all boy racer and getting a sub, amp and upgrading the speakers but hell, i've got the money to throw around so why not =P

Phase 2

Remap, only a stage 1 for the time being but just a little something to give her a little more ooomph (NOT VA VA VOOM)

Phase 3

Body work, this is the one that i'm really not 100% about.

I need to get a new rear bumper as the one that's on there is currently rocking a nice burn on it from it dragging down the motorway for god knows how far before other drivers got my attention. I'm definitely going to be touching up the paint on account of it being covered in pepper marks and numerous dents and scrapes from her old owners but i'm also tempted to start doing various little bits in Monster Green (as in the energy drink because i'm an addict)

I'm tempted to get a new front number too, possibly aftermarket but again it's stuff i'm not 100% on as it's not going to make any major difference to her, just her appearance.

I'm not planning on getting any suspension fiddlyness, that's staying as it is but i'm also tempted by some new/lighter alloys.

I can see myself going a little bit too far with everything and throwing 1000's of pounds at her and going completely stupid but who knows, I may stick to being sensible and stop when I've said I will =P.

U want to make it a monster pd130 turbo and remap ive got a turbo for sale £150 delivered

After reading the title I thought it was going to be an X rated Thread

Just buy a VRS instead.

Snap lol don't waste your money, no offence intended fella.

Yeah as I got half way down your post, I was thinking "Why not just sell and get a VRS?" So I am with everyone on that account.

If you do not fancy that however, why would you not go down the route of suspension? It's not that hard, it's not that dear (seeing as you have the money now) and it will not only uprate the appearance of your car, it will make it handle a bit better as well.

It sounds like you've got a really Fabia and have made it good for little expense. I'm guessing you could sell now for a profit?

Just sell up and buy a vRS IMO.

To bring this topic back to seriousness, I feel you do need to consider whether it's really worth throwing money at a car that's not far off throwing it down the drain, or saving up and getting something a bit better.

You say: "...i've got the money to throw around so why not..."

My motto would rather be the old cliché "look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves" - worked for me! I had a rusty Citroen 2CV6 at your age though admittedly was still at university...

I was thinking of just getting a vrs but my long term goal is to get a Fabia mk.3 vrs when they eventually declare the arrival of it :p. Ive developed an emotional attachment to the old girl now after having to do so much surgery on her to get her all up and running again to be honest.

I've decided I'm just going to keep her forever but when the mk.3 comes along me and a colleague are going to strip out basically everything from the old girl and get her set up for amateur rallies :p.

Maybe im just being stubborn I dont know but im preparing for the remap by getting the cam belt changed jin the next 2 weeks and getting a new air filter and such.

I might tag along to the nearest brisky meet to get some ideas whenever someone gets one set up.

I'm with everyone else, just buy a vrs!

You could probably make a profit on selling as is then throw your money into something worthwhile.?

The only real monster pd100 is Jasons (Devonutopia) and I've no idea how much cash he's chucked at it, but probably enough to buy 2 or 3 mk1 vrs's

As for rallying wouldn't a petrol be better?

Hopefully the mk3 vrs will have the mk2 problems resolved.

I thought devonutopia had put a pd130 in his originally pd100 fabia? He's gone a bit overboard with it, but then it is putting out 272hp according to jkm's website :p

It started out as a pd100 they have the same engine as the vrs just a different turbo, injectors etc.

I've seen "concept" images of the mk3. I'm not holding my breath over it actually looking as nice as in the pictures but im really not a fan of how boxy the mk2 looks. In my eyes the mk1 was a thing of much more beauty.

And aswell I think some people underestimate the nippyness of the 100PD engine :p.

My old boss has a Seat Ibiza Cupra R with a Shark map, decat etc thats pushing something like 220bhp and my old girl gives him a real run for his money off the mark xD.

As soon as we get to about 70mph that's it though, my power is nowhere near his and he creaps away from me.

I may have a bit of a scrawl through devonutopias threads and see what secrets i can find.
