Gear Box Plug PD130

Featured Replies

Spent the morning cleaning my car and checking fluid levels etc and having a poke round under the bonnet. I noticed a round hole on the top of the gearbox where I could see my new flywheel through, obviously I assume there should some sort of plug to prevent something dropping in?

Not sure what to search for on Ebay etc, is there a part number which I can order from my local Skoda dealer?

Thank you :)

Hi VRSD30

The part number you need is a generic VAG part number 02M301115B. If I remember correctly I got mine for my vRS from a VW dealer (can't locate invoice!!).

It would have been removed by the technician the last time your cambelt was changed to check timing marks and it'll still be in his pocket!!

Seem to remember it being referred to as a stopper!

Resembles a hot water bottle stopper and just pushes into the hole in the bellhousing.

HTH.

Thanks Alan, I'll call into the Skoda garage up the road next week and ask them to order one. You never know they might even have one knocking about, I've never noticed it before until now and I've been under the bonnet loads of times!

Liam :D

There is no need for it to be removed when doing a cambelt on a PD. the crank tool locks the crank in the right place and has a timing mark on it.

Thanks for that Tech1e - one lives and learns.

Based my comment on my own experience when my cambelt was changed. Plug there before main dealer did work and missing straight after!! Assumed TDC marks had to be seen in inspection hole prior to fitting locking tool.

Noticed the OP mentions seeing his "new flywheel" through the hole - possibly dislodged when box was removed to fit that?

They do tend to pop out quite easily.

It's about an inch or so wide showing the teeth on the outer edge of the flywheel. Can they just pop out and fall off? Never noticed it missing before and like I said I've been under the bonnet a number of times. Clutch & flywheel changed @ 133,000 back in May and I'm pretty sure it hasn't been missing for that long.

Hi Liam

Just checked mine tonight after posting my earlier reply. It's still there after replacing it 4 years ago!

Alan
