The key fob is only locking the car but not unlocking the car?

The only way it will open is by putting the key in the door and then pressing the unlock all doors key on the drivers door to open the rest

Do I need a new key fob?

it would tell you if the fob is outputing a signal when you press the unlock button, I have access to one and they are dead handy.

Last week a customer had a 08 passat and his fob all of a sudden just stopped working, this little thing said the fob was outputting fine.

Re-coded the key with VCDS and off he went!

i have a skoda octavia 06.the alarm key fob suddenly doesnt work.normally it has a display tht shows some symbols and if the car is locked or not but now it desnt show anything.plus,when i try to open the car manually with the key, the alarm goes one { wich is normall } but i can hear a small noise on the fob wich is normal bit it desont dispaly anything.

How are keys re-coded in VCDS?

I could do with another key and I dont fancy paying to get it re-coded.
