Suspension Dilemma

Featured Replies

B6 on stock springs won't reduce my ride height ... If I'm upgrading the suspension ...

I do want a lower ride height ..

Why lower though?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but if you want the best handling and being able to deal with poor roads, using just B6 will give you a good improvement there. Another option would be to get B6 and a set of springs from a car that's the same of yours in the UK. A lot of the roll problems on the car are down to the fact that the dampers are just that bit soft.

I'd say try the B6/springs in another car that has it fitted before you say no way to it.

The UK spec dampers would drop your car a few mm.

Another option would be to go for the Eibach B12 or H&R kits, but in India, with either of those, I'd be very much thinking you should fit a metal under tray/sump protector, so you don't end up with big bills replacing the aluminium sump.

Lowering because the 165mm looks horrid with my standard 15" wheels ... My car completed 3 years in June & even though we've got pathetic roads, I mostly stick to the better parts of the city and highways .. which are of late not that bad. So, not really concerned with ground clearance ... and also in India we get the rough road package as standard which includes a huge metal sheet guard type thing under the engine.

I was planning on not changing the dampers before and had tried to source the UK springs for a couple of months and just add those .... but it s a pain getting hands on them ... and finally gave it up when someone from rainworth skoda in UK told me that indian and Uk spec cars have different body shells and different this and that and there are nearly 60 different types of springs and it s not easy to get the right one.

Have you got what's called the Octavia or the Laura in India?

If you've already got the rough road package and think it'll be ok, I'd be tempted to go towards the eibach b12 kit, as it's drop will be minimal. I guess it's all down to supply cost local to yourself.

The other option of course would be to source some 16" alloys and 205/55/R16 wheels when your tyres run out.

So now its the wheels. If as you say you have unlimited money, then a set of say 17" rims and the B6's, then people will at least see you have money to burn. Remember your car is raised over a euro spec one so even std euro spec dampers will drop your vehicle.

haha .... Ya i've got the laura .. which is the octavia II, but it s not called the octavia because the octavia mk1 was still selling strong when the octavia mk2 came out. But now since the mk1 has been discontinued the octavia name is going to come back on the european rapid. But it can t be called a rapid because we have a rapid i.e. a fabia with a boot (which is a vw vento - which is a vw polo with a boot) ..

Anyways, before retro fitting anything becomes a nightmare in the near future ... I want to get the suspension thing done ...

@cheezemonkhai ... any ideas about the h&r cup kit ?

also I just read somewhere online that the b12 gives a drop of 30mm on eu spec ride height .. so does that mean I ll drop down 30 + 25mm of my additional ride height ?

If your current ride height is 25 mm above the standard European ride height, the you will drop 55 mm by fitting a B12 kit and roughly the same with a H&R cup kit (as per my post #18!)

Ok, from 165 to 110 ......

a little bit too much ?

It's quite a bit - but only you can judge that based upon the roads around you and your driving style / expectations of the lowered car.

I've found going down by 32 mm (from standard European non-Vrs spec to Eibach pro kit springs) to have been quite 'challenging' at times with regard to our roads.

One thing I would say is that I don't feel Bilstein B4's are a good match to the Eibach springs. I wondered about the benefits of B8's / B6's when the group buy came up, but could not gain enough information to convince me that it would give me more without taking anything away than I already had with the B4's.
