Broken Paper guide on Fellowes PS62C shredder

Featured Replies

After a couple of days of recent use, this shredder has stopped working.

When I diassembled the cutting head, it was plain go see that one of the plastic paper guides that closely enclose the cutter drum and which run the length of the drum has split at about half way along its length.

It appears that overtime the guide has been pushed back, away from its correct position (Closely fitting the cutter drum) by residual paper shreds from the cutting process.

I've managed to clear the accumulated paper and attempted to reset the paper guide back to its proper position and this gets the shreddder working, albeit for about 10 sheets until the gao between the cutter drum and one side of the broken paper guide fills with shreds, the guide gets oushed out of position, jams the rotation of the cutter drum and the shredder stops.

Although this machine is 7 years old and outside the 2 Year warranty (5 years on the steel cutters!) it has only been used lightly up until recently. The steel cutters are in good condition, but it appears that the plastic paper guides are integral to the cutter assembly and are not supplied as a separate part - the steet cutters beibg the major oart if the cost.

I just wondered if anyone has come across a make-do and mend reoair for ghe plastic guides - I don't think that supergluing alone would be man enough.

Had a similar thing on my Fellowes. I heated up a flathead screwdriver over a camping stove and did a plastic weld with the tip by melting the offending split together. Is still working 2 years on.

Don't know whether I'd be brave or skilled enough to do that. Especially as most of these plastocs polyproplene, pvc etc tend to shrink rapidly when you re-heat them.

I was thinking more along the lines of superglueing the but joint and then supergluing a couple of pieces of heavy guage piano wire to the back side by way of re-inforcing and then covering the backside of the join in duct tape.

You could try No More Nails - it keeps me firmly in my place, or so the wife says!
