New user with warranty question

Featured Replies

Hi All,

New to the forum but a warranty issue brings me here with a fairly succinct question.

Should a front shock absorber be leaking oil at just under 20,000 miles (Octavia TSi)? It's one only (passenger side). Looks like the warranty doesn't extend this far as I've been advised to 'keep an eye on it'! Is this a reasonable response and if not advice on steps forward would be appreciated.

I thought that a leaking shock was an MOT fail?

Cheers....

i suppose the questions are

1. what year is the car

2. how long have you owned it

3. who has said the warranty doesn't cover this? (franchised dealer or independent)

Yes, I can see more information would be useful In answer then:

1) 2011 (11 plate)

2) I've owned the car for 13 months. Car pre-registered so it's about 18 months old.

3. Main dealer. Response based on 'general advisory' on shocks from Skoda.

Have asked them to go back to Skoda warranty for a direct answer rather than an 'advisory informed' one.

I doubt a shock absorber would be covered as they're classed as consumables. You could have hit a massive pothole and broken it, which wouldn't be the manufacturer's fault. BTW This is just an example of why it probably isn't covered.

On the other hand, stranger things have happened and if you have a good dealer (and there are some out there), they might be willing to exchange. Good luck

I see your point @jigger72 and thanks for the input. But, having come out of several Ford's with no such problems (same driving styles and same roads) even after 60K, can't help but be a little disappointed. Seems like a manufacture fail, smells like a manufacture fail and even the warranty inspection has told me that it WILL fail!

Skoda not moving on this one, (they're falling back on the 'fair wear and tear' T's & C's which kick in after 6.500mies) so I'll likely be looking for another marque at the next change of car.

Lesson learnt...beware the warranty exclusions!

Hi and welcome aboard.
