** Quick answer please ** Console bushes

Featured Replies

My vRS has just failed its MOT on the dreaded console bushes, AGAIN ! Can you please advise me of the part numbers for the OE item and the Cupra uprated ones ? I just spoke to Skoda and they say they supply the 6LL407183 as standard, which is supposedly the Cupra item. Have they stopped using the dodgy old ones full of holes and only supply these solid items, or was I talking to an idiot ?

Already posted in technical by mistake, sorry.

don't know the number but sounds logical Ithink they only come voided or solid which is the one to go for--not dear as I remember

Might not be dear alone, but when added to CV boots and rear calipers to get through the MOT you're looking at £400+. I thought things would have improved since my old '91 Corrado, but it looks like VW's are still only built to last 3.1 years before they disintegrate. VAG are my Groundhog Day. NEVER AGAIN !

Thanks for the advice.

Skoda don't supply the original ones any more - They supply an uprated part that lasts better.

They don't supply the solid Cupra bushes unless you ask for them by part number.

Have a look at the below for a better explanation

The original bushes as fitted at the factory only had one support running through them as per below:

They realised these were always failing and so released the revised bushes. These are what you will get if you purchase replacement bushes from your dealer. They no longer supply the original type.

I have these fitted and they're great. Much better than the original bushes, and no increase in vibrations.

They look like below:

The other option is the solid Cupra bush which is why you sometimes get excess vibrations through the cabin.

Thanks for the diagram. I ordered using the Cupra part number sourced off here, and the guy seemed aware of it. He assured me there were no voids or holes and that they were a solid bush. See what I get come Wednesday morning I suppose, but they have to be fitted on Wednesday so no 2nd chance if they're the wrong ones. I really want rid of this car before the next MOT, I don't think I will ever buy VAG again.

Buying the part is cheap, it's fitting it that is a pain.

I have a spare pair of consoles with cupra bushes already installed if its easier to change the consoles than press the bushes in and out?

Thanks for the offer, but I need the car back on the road and it's booked in tomorrow for fixing. Out of MOT and clients to teach in it on Thursday, so no time.

I need to be better organised next year and get it booked in for the MOT earlier. I couldn't get in at my local council testing station as they only do public cars on a Saturday now, so limited availability soon booked up. Ended up at a garage I know and trust, but he is very strict with MOT's.
