2mm deep chunk out of tyre side wall

Looks like a new tyre :(

Fecking pot hole most likely

Decide on the most likely culprit and send a letter to the relevant council. May get no where but worth a punt.

Agree with MVL ^^^^^^

I potholed a tyre just weeks after collecting my new Roomy.

I took pictures of the "culprit" and submitted a claim to the Council.

To their credit, Birmingham City Council reimbursed the cost of a new tyre.

Try it but don't get your hopes up. Going rate is about 0.3-0.5% of claims being paid out.

But don't try and it goes down to 0%

if the pothole is 4 inches or more deep and you have photographic evidence of pothole and an eyewitness, they pay out ( know this from experience)

I have heard this also. Find a pothole but get someone else to complain about it first before you submit photo and claim. I believe the pothole must be registered first to at least give the council time to respond and fix it. Get a friend to complain then submit your claim the next day.

Not that straightforward by a long shot.

The hole also has to be of greater than certain dimensions to qualify as a defect in the first place.

Council also has to be negligent in its inspection of the road i.e. standard says examine every 4 weeks and they've not done it for 12.

And/or if the road fault has been reported but they've not responded within the required deadline.

Councils are pretty good in general at those two things because it saves a lot of money on compo.

You can put in an FOI asking for the details on those things what the standards are and when the inspection or report / repair took place.

well it worked for me, but i know they can be hard to prize money from.
