Hands free kit

Featured Replies

Has any one had a hands free kit fitted that integrates withe the multi function steering wheel. My dealer knows nothing even when I show him the section in the manual to ask the dealer. Also can you use the roof arial

Not sure about the multi function wheel, but mine's wired through the radio, so it switches to phone mode when i make or recieve a call, and i can control the volume in the normal way with the turny button thing on the radio. Has a separate aerial though, on the inside of the windscreen.

get the dealers service dept to phone thgeir enmquiry line as there is a kit avaliable, but compatability depends on the phone.

you can also go aftermarket and buy a 3rd party lead that fits in the back of the HU to go with another brand kit.

Have at last had a full kit fitted: at first, the Orange engineers could not remove the stereo........ eventually, had one who had an Octy: sorted! Stereo display now registers "PHONE" when on the phone, or call comes in: audio cuts out automatically (via audio loom, an extra) when a call comes in: sound through stereo speakers: volume either through control on side of phone or from m/f steering wheel: works a treat. Microphone is by coutesy/mapreading lights in front, cradle is on extension at side of passenger side climate control rotary dial. Phone is a (work) Nokia 6310i. All in all, a very good set-up.

Hope this helps.

I am looking t installing my Nokia car kit in my Octy at the weekend. However how does the radio come out. Is it screwed in from the top like in a mk5 golf?

Only thing I'd recommend is getting the microphone put as near as possible to the driver seat, as opposed to being 'near the windscreen' when positioned there.

I've got a setup as per my sig (Furby but exact same concept with incoming sound via speakers & Symphony) and I found I had to move it a little closer to get understood clearly by those I was talking to :)

From a safety standpoint it is WAY better than those headphone/microphone cable combinations, although they again are better than not using handsfree (and they are of course the minimum legal thing to use)

Yes. It uses more or less the same radios

The Nokia microphones are directional, so work best with the cable end facing away from you.

How does the top cubby hole come out? Is it held in with tabs? I couldnt see any screws holding it in.

Didnt mean turning it the wrong way, just fit it as near as possible to you ;)

Ian, Hope its not too cheeky to ask, but wot sort of money did it cost to get the kit fitted?? I have an 6310 and an Octy on order and have also considered having this done too.

Cheers

Not done it myself yet, but by the look of it, you can lever it out.

Iain,

Thanks for you reply on the hands free kit, I have a 6310i company phone to fit in the car when it arrives. Work give me a voucher to pay for Orange to fit it so I hope I get your last fitter. Couple of questions, the audio loom is the from Orange or Skoda and how much. Second does your install use the roof arial or did you have one fitter.

Tahks in advance

Smilo

I got charged an hour labour to fit mine, bought a CK3100 which is Bluetooth-based. It was wired into the Symphony and effectively works the same.

For the Nokia kit I'd expect a similar cost. Give your dealer a buzz, they can usually tell you over the phone :D

Thanks for the update. Mine is not due until 6th July, dealer updated yesterday so fingers crossed. It's an L&K 2ltr DTI with sports pack. Just hope it does arrive as due to go to France on the 26th.

Will post what happens with hands free kit when it happens.

Top cubby just levers out

Radio held in with 4 screws beneath the covers (which lever off) by the side buttons.

Front trim surround pulls off (carefully)

Not a lot of room at the back of the head unit to get extra plugs/wiring in.

There is another possibility not to use extra adapters. Example for Parrot CK3100. The objective is to connect 2 cables of audio and the cable of mute to connectors TEL AF+, TEL AF- and TEL MUTE that exits from ECU directly. On the other hand, it is necessary to take a permanent positive and a ignition positive to feed the ECU. With this, one is able to make work the Parrot without adapters.

This is the connection schema of the Audience RadioCD Mp3:

Some pics of Skoda-ISO adaptator (41,76

My Furby has a CK3100 and it didnt require ANY additional wiring beyond what was supplied in the Parrot box. Not quite sure why the Octy would be any different though in this regard, I know it's a different HU but it must have permanent and switched 12V signals as the radio uses those to turn itself on/off and keep it's memory, respectively?

Yes, Fabia/Octavia I/Superb has ISO connections but Octavia II, Golf V, New Passat, at least, has new connector.

And yes, I have to take permanent and ignition +12v from fuse box. If i take +12v ignition signal from Audience it will crash the car because it can be recogniza a high consumption on Audience circuit and to assume this is a error, activating inmo.

I know people that take signal from Audience and his car no ignited anymore. It was towing until a Skoda partner.

I recommend to take the both signals from the fuses box.

Seems strange they've moved away from a standard connector system, but I'm sure you're right :)

I wonder why they went through that trouble in that case?

I don't know too  probably because the CANBUS car information system.

I'm sure what i say. I've a Octavia II and pics above are from my Audience and my Octavia

I don't understand you? Can you explain me? :)

Like you say - it seems stupid to change from a standard ISO system to something non-standard as it will cost owners more money to fit standard equipment to the car.

It is possible that CANBUS is involved but even in that case, most of the wiring should be standard.

Are there no conversion leads available for the Octy II to make it compatible with ISO?

Hi there pas-pas when you took the radio out did you see if there were any aux stereo inputs. They are mentioned at the back of my audience manual but nowhere else. The garage was not really been able to help.

Its a real pest not having either a tape or aux-in as I like to play my mp3 collection in the car and the FM solution is not that good.

Im currently just burning my MP3s to CD and playing them that way but whoever designed the user interface for playing mp3s in the audience should have been shot. Try to easily find / naviagte to a particular folder and song and you'll see what I mean - I cant remeber what track 154 was so constant botton pressing is needed.

cheers

Darius
