For the first time this morning I get a spoken warning about traffic problems ahead. I was not using Navigation at the time.

About as much as I know about TMC is that you can press the button and get textual messages on issues in the area.

Is this linked to being connected to the iphone via Bluetooth for streaming audio - as when I have done this, again only recently got this working, a TMC icon appears on my MFD?

There doesn't seem to be a logical link and the manaul is suitably vague about all this!

No it's not an iphone / bluetooth thing. Mine does it too and I don't have an iphone! It's done by TMC looking at the road you are on, rather than when navigating where it can check your whole route.

My current car (INSIGNIA) does this and I have no clue how you switch it on/off.

I thought it would be a subscription based service that the previous owner had paid for but it has been working for over 12 months now.

It works even when not navigating.

I just found it wierd it's done it once in the year I've owned the car and I've seen loads of traffic issues highlighted on the map or on the TMC message list but never had the thing talk to me about it!

I've also never seen the letters TMC appear on the MFD until I was streaming the audio and thought the two might have been wierdly linked!

I had this announcement many times travelling through France using the sat nav. It would have been usefull if it gave me a better advance notice and advised a new route whilst on the motorway offering me the chance to turn off the motorway at a prior junction instead of joining the traffic jam. Does anyone know if this is possible to do?

Mine always seems to announce it when I am in traffic and slowing down - I call her Captain Obvious!

I get the announcement all the time on my long commute. Well six to seven times a journey. Drives me up the wall.

Have given up pressing things to try and turn it off. Does it regardless of in nav mode or not. Regardless of if TMC is ticked.

Has anyone figured this out?

I only get this when the Nav is active...never heard it at other times but could be coincidental.

Tried that and it didn't work unfortunately. Set the traffic announcement volume to minimum but TMC still comes through.
