Knocking help!

Featured Replies

Hi, ive got a fabia vrs 55 plate had some knocking from the front end for a while now. I polybushed the console bushes, arb bushes and changed the drop links, been wondering if it could be shock absorbers? it doesn't happen over speed bumps or anything like that just odd bumps and holes in the road but is really annoying. If anyone has any ideas or any help at all would be great cheers!

I've got the same sort of thing coming from the passenger side rear... It sounds like something rattling in the boot but it isn't... Seems to happen a bit more when going slow down hill and feels like it sways back and fro... Really strange... Sorry for the slight hijack but will be interested to see the outcome

Don't worry bout it mate, mines passenger front most but think it could be drivers side too, my back shockers need changing found that out when I replaced the bump stops, haven't had any swaying feelings thou.... yours sounds possibly like the rear beam bushes?

Top mounts?

Are the top mounts easy to change? can you tell by looking at them if they need changing or is there any way to determine if it is them? Cheers.

Wouldn't be top mounts for mine would it?

I've had coilovers on now for about 3 weeks whether that makes any difference or helps anyone?

Any more advice peeps? It's going in the garage today

Mine is also in the garage right now for similar symptoms. My hunch is that it's driveshaft related. It doesn't always do it but little bumps in the road and I can feel it through the gearstick too.

I can feel mine through the pedals sometimes but it feels like its coming from rear but I could be wrong I suppose?

I can't feel it through the pedals or the gearstick, i can just hear it, it annoys me driving it cause nearly everything that goes wrong with It I fix, but this is just driving me mad

Nice one  is it going into a different garage?

Sounds slightly trollish' but do you think you could save the pennies and live with the knock till it gets REALLY bad?

I had an Astra Coupe and for many months it knocked and drove me mental. Everywhere I took it, nothing could be found..so i started cheap and changed the droplinks..sound disappeared!

So I've kinda contradicted myself there slightly

I keep hearing about shorter droplinks with coilovers...

I have also heard about shorter drop links with coilovers.. mine is on standard suspension L33 LHO stated top mounts?

Does anyone have any ideas how to determine if it is these?

I changed the drop links, polybushed the arb and console bushes and there is still a knocking, i was kinda hoping it was going to be one of them..

I get the odd noise when turning my steering wheel either left or right - More of a clicking noise - Impossible to locate where it is coming from but the car drives perfectly.

You can get "clicking" or "clunking" sounds when turning if the top mount bearings are no good.

Turns out mine was drop links. Although 2 other garages looked neither found that they were loose. About 3-4 turns!!! As simple as that. Hope everyone else gets theirs sorted.

Jesus, some garages are just useless!

Wish mine was as simple ha.

Turn the stereo up and try not to think about it - works for me :x

i had this when i had my Vrs, sold it just after i fixed it.

Engine mount. Mine was on a 130K odd, I changed everything in that side

Balljoint, drop link, CV joint, Track rod, Topmounts where new.

Everyone else said exactly the same to me, Turn the radio up.... ignore it..... found out the engine mount was shot. did all of them and replaced the dogbone too. Noise went away and all power to the road now.

kept in contact with the guy who bought it and hasnt had it come back since.

And the result again: ENGINE MOUNTS.

Can you remember how much all the mounts were?

Was yours driver or passenger side that the noise was coming from?

Was gunna have a look at ball joint tomorrow, well I still might jus to see if it's no good.

Mine started after 2 weeks on coilovers, noises when turning the wheel at standstill and i light clunking going down my drive but fine on the road. got the top mounts for £10 and top mount bearings for £10, also going to change console bushes to cupra ones and poly front bushes while doing my top mounts.
