Oil

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Probably been covered before but what is the best oil for a 2007 vrs pd diesel. I would prefer to use shell helix.

I believe the grade is 5W30 and if you order 5 litres of Triple QX from euro car parts and use discount code OILSPILL30 you get 30% off and the oil filter free!

Semi or fully synthetic?

VW507.00

VW507.00

Yup as long as it says VW507 on the tin...

Semi or fully synthetic?

Fully, and it must be stamped VW 507 Spec or atleast meet ACEA SAE C3 Spec. The Triple QX 5W30 is stamped to meet VW 507 Spec.

Whats the triple X oil like?? mines needs an oil change and i'm going back to fixed so 5w40 for the TFSI

Can get 5 litres of Fuchs super syn 5w40 for £30 delivered.

Ive used the Triple QX 5W40 twice mate without any problems and it was just under £16 with 30% discount at the time and its stamped as meeting the spec, I usually use a genuine filter but im gonna take advantage of the promotion and get myself a freebee lol

Cool, just slightly iffy about the name, although i'm gettin rid of it soon i'm not that type of person to ruin a car, you know what i mean.

Your running the TFSI eh?? has it used much oil??

Yeah I know what you mean it should be ok if it meets the spec though, so your not going to get another VAG? Yeah im running the TFSI mine drinks like a fish always has I think its going through the turbo cos when I changed the dv a few drips came out from the turbo im using around 1 litre to every 6-700 miles thats why I prefer the cheap oil lol how about yours?

Nah not another VAG 2nd and last VAG never again, Wow i'm not using that much lol probably 250ml-500ml max for every 1000 miles.

I've noticed my DV whistles until the engine is up to temp seems to not be sealing properly odd one, might just order up that Triple QX then.

Thats the thing, too many common little engine faults that hinder peformance, not sure what ill be driving next...not another taxi thats for sure lol

I use silkolene Pro S 5W-40 which lasts a lttle longer than the 5W-30 I was using. Considering it uses a litre every 800 miles or so, then long life is unimportant, but always, always fully synthetic, and I'd never use a cheap oil in any engine.

So is it the same spec oil for PD or TFSI? - For example:

PD - 5w30 - VW507

TFSI - 5w40 - VW504/VW507

CR -

Tsi -

Years ago as a student, we had a visit from one of the oil majors. He explained that their premium oil would usually fulfill grade criteria at the end of service, while oil blended for supermakets, lets say, would only just make the grade when new.

There are lots of companies having oil packed for them, they can have it blended for cheapness or performance. There are only a handful of companies who extract and refine crude - we know who they are and there are about 5 companies who manufacture the various additive packages,

The contents of your purchase come together entirely due to geographic expediency meaning esso packaged oil may have come from a conoco oil field and refined by shell, with the all important additives made by yet another company. Or perm any from ten. Plus a few boutique packers.

The best additives tend to be expensive, so to make cheaper oil you leave them out and use a substitute, which results in the scenario above.

Depends on fixed or variable for the TFSI not sure on PD, CR or TSI engine.

TFSI:

Fixed Servicing is 5w40

Variable(long-life) Servicing is 5w30

TSI/TFSI is 504.00 although most 507 oils are also approved for 504.

For example mobile 1 esp is a VW504/VW507 approved oil.

I still don´t understand why you don´t try a brand name oil like BP, SHELL,MOBIL and CASTROL(maybe)

Ever thought that the oil brand you are using is why your engine is eating oil.

I use GALP 5W30 (recomended and used for group VW in Portugal, for 2 years contract) , now they use both GALP and CASTROL.

Have changed the oil every 15k and drops 3/4mm on dipstick.

Just my point of view.

My dad has a passat with the AFN engine, has around 330k, every 10k changed oil (BP 7000), no issues and no eating oil.

Many have these engines eating oil (1 liter for every 3/4k) not normal.

The mobil1 ESP and Quantum Longlife III don't have massive oil drink issues.

Personally I'd stick one of those in, warm the car up then give it some high revs action for a while.

It's possible to glaze oil on the bore and once that's then the stuff can slip past easier.

Breather blockage is another that's worth checking on some vehicles.

Been there tried that, it doesnt matter what grade (5W30 or 5W40) or brand you use in the VAG 2.0 TFSI They are almost two stroke througout the VAG range you only have to 'google' 2.0 TFSI oil consumption to see it. no one said anything about using the wrong oil or wrong grade I was refering to the 2.0 TFSI engine and the subject is on Triple QX 5W40 which happens to be quite cheap with 30% discount at the moment and also meets VW specs 502.00, VW 505.00 meaning it has been present to VW for approval and passed as it is the correct grade and does contain the correct additives.

Fair enough. I tend to use Quantum from TPS at a good price.

It meets the spec and is cheap, which means I'm not paying a large mark up.

I checked, and it's Gulf Competition 5w 40 that I'm using, not Silkolene (though that was one recommended by Opie oils) It's not long life even though the service interval is variable because it uses so much it's a waste of money.
