Remap for better MPG

Featured Replies

Now, I've read loads of threads about chipping your vRS in both Octy and Furby models, but to my mind this gives better performance at a much reduced economy. Yes, I know you've got to live, you're only young once, etc, etc, but is it possible to remap or chip your standard 1.6 102bhp to give even better mpg at the expense of performance? You see, I do a lot of town driving on business and normally think I'm doing well to get over 35mpg, and that's with me not being too heavy with the right foot.

Any thoughts? Would it cost much? Am I a sad person?

I guess that jabba could give you a custom Granny map if thats what you're after - it'll cost around

AFAIK Jabba don't do tuning for N/A engines...however, there is the potential that at least one tuning place out there will offer custom maps for them.

In theory it would be possible to tune it to use less fuel, but over 35mpg is pretty good considering the weight of the car anyway - would be surprised if it would get much better.

NA engines can be remapped but you'll only get approx. 10% increase in power.

With all remaps there is the potential for better mpg because yo won't need to try as hard to get to the same speeds. Of course though if you use the increased power you will reduce the mpg.

A good example of increased mpg is DaveU...never seen over 30mpg on his Octy RS but since big turbo transplant he's seeing 45+mpg on motorway cruise..of course when he boots it...it's a lot less than previous.
