changing up without using the clutch on vrs.

Featured Replies

good evening all,

will changing up gear without using the clutch cause any damage or problems if it is done carefully and not forced?

im not talking about 1st to 2nd, more the higher gears.

thoughts appreciated.

Cant say i`v tried this, I`v always used a clutch in a manual, find it very advantageous. Short of this, try a automatic.

can eventually wear it syncro in particular. Any reason for wanting to do this?

silly thing is if the clutch wasn't needed why would they put the third peddle there?

to confuse a blonde?

you will cause mor wear on the synchromesh mechanism and reduce the life of the gearbox, by how much depends on how often you do it and how good you are at getting the revs just right

thanks for the answers.

was just curious really after noticing how easily it is to do with this car compared to others i have had.

its really really easy when you press the clutch down

yes it's pretty easy in some cars more than others, but I'm pretty sure it could cause muchos damage that one time it goes wrong. I try that whenever I get a courtesy car, it's quite satisfying find the right rpm to do it

note to self... do NOT buy a car from coiner.

Poor old courtesy cars.. I can't begin to imagine what they go through during their hire life. I mean, you HAVE to thrash it to within an inch of its life - its in the hire agreement, right?

Depends on the circumstance to why I'm actually using a courtesy car. The Skoda Dealer I got my car from were highly incompetant, and very much liked to waste my time and money.

Their loan cars got treated accordingly
