Courtesy Cars with Warranty Repairs.

Featured Replies

Anyone know the Skoda policy with this?.

Mine is going in for a sticky handbrake cable on Thursday and despite me booking it 2 weeks ago I have been told that I will not get a courtesy car. The best they can do is drop me at the train station 1.5 miles away. This means a train trip, 2 mile run at the other end to get home. 2 mile run back to the station when the car is ready and a 1.5 mile run at the other end (they cannot pick up).

Now with Volvo, when the car was in for its many repairs I was always supplied a car free of charge. When they didn't have a car at the dealers, I called Volvo UK and they hired me a car. I was hoping Skoda might have a similar policy. Anyone know?.

All my experience is that it's generally down to the individual dealer; some have spare cars they can use, some don't.

For example, Parkview, Reading are letting Yeti's at the moment, but you have to advance book it to make sure it's available on the day your car is in and you have to sign a three way waiver to either prove you can cover the car on your own insurance, pay £7 to use theirs excess free or pay nothing and have a £500 excess. THey will also drop you off locally if you want instead.

Rainworth had a problem getting my car when it was made cos of that big storm in 08 damaging loads of vag cars in germany, so they lent me a fabia for about two months for no charge.

Others simply won't have cars available so it's down to where you go. Would have thought it's unlikely they're gonna pay for a hire car unless there's a major problem which'll need your car over several days. I've never heard of any dealer NOT picking someone up when the car's ready though! Sounds like your dealer is just a bit ****!

A decent dealer should give you a vehicle for warranty work.

Speak to Skoda, they will supply a car FOC even if its a hire car. I always ask for a free car when the dealer tries to charge for the insurance. You just need to make a fuss.

Mine collect the car from work and bring it back.

Assuming you mean under warranty, i'd doubt any garage would do this if it wasn't.

Mine is going in for a few things on Wednesday to Mitchells (last chance @ 3 year point!) including the handbrake slider cover (is that your sticky handbrake cable?) same issue on mine... I have booked a courtesy car, they offer to pick up/ drop off car or myself too? It was booked in the other week but didnt tell us it would be in for a couple of days!!! Was getting a car but I was on holiday in a day or too so rebooked, hopefully get an Octy replacement and not the fabia had last time

Getting windscreen done too (de-laminated), badges, Slow SD card in Bolero sorted (maybe!) as well as a bit of damage done to the car when it went in for a service the other week!! Plus its 1st MOT :(

And warranty (part fail) or VOSA recall, not niggles, servicing or technical updates. This is how Ford and VW work IME.

My Local dealer (Adamsons) have always provided a car - sure it might mean delaying the work by a few days if they're busy but that's fair enough. Occasionally I've got them to pick it up/drop it off instead if the work can't wait.

In honesty so did Peugeot in Canterbury. In fact if be pretty hacked off if I needed warranty work and a dealer tried to worm their way out of it.......

Either a courtesy car or a free drop off and collection is the norm.

If neither of these is available vote with your feet and use another dealer.

Can't find anything in the warranty, but there's this on their site under the customer commitments section: http://www.skoda.co....es/default.aspx ?

A flexible and convenient service

We will:

  • Provide flexibility and choice of dates and times for booking and collection
  • Ensure our price will be all-inclusive for the work we agree to undertake
  • Endeavour to diagnose a vehicle defect within 24 hours of the vehicle being presented to us
  • Offer free collection and delivery within a 10 mile radius (up to 20 minutes drive time) for pre-bookings
  • Provide a courtesy car or arrange onward mobility if your vehicle is to be kept overnight

Ask if you can a demo out for the day ;)

I always ask for a courtesy car and have to wait until there is one available.

I get them for servicing as well as warranty work and work I have had to pay for as well.

The dealer: Allams of Epsom.

Has been my experience also although I've often had to book the car early. If you're fussy with what car you want it can be a long time.

I've normally had the insurance transferred for the day onto the courtesy car and the ins has sent through a cert without charge.

Yep, as I believe. And I agree with the second comment if it's important to you.

Well 20 minutes after calling SUK the dealer contacted me to let me know a courtesy car 'had become free' so I would not be without wheels.

The policy is a customer having any work under warranty is entitled to a car. If the dealer cannot supply one then the dealer must hire one and have it with the customer within 2 hours at their cost.

Hope this is useful for someone else in the future.

That sounds reasonable as a policy.
