Do I, Don't I

Featured Replies

My car is coming up to 2 years of ownership and I am getting 'that' itch

Last time this happened I did lots of modifications over 5 years and then sold it for a Fabia VRS.

This time I am thinking about a race blue Octavia VRS estate around the corner from me. It comes will full leather and 21,000 miles. The dealer has it up for £14,000 but not much else mentioned in the advert. I would probably need to find £5,500 - £6,000 on top of my current car to get it but I have been lusting after a VRS since I sold the Fabia. I have asked the dealer for more details as I would want parking sensors again.

I know you guys will probably say go for it, but its the extra finance needed again! Also were auto dimming mirrors an option on the VRS unlike my elegance?

Some questions:

1 - do you want it?

2 - can you afford it?

If the answer to both is "yes", then buy it :)

Age of the Octy? Petrol, diesel?

Personally I'd just stick with what you got until you can afford a new one.

I've looked at finance, pcp, loans, flat out keeping a car and unless your current one is falling apart (and it should still be under warranty) then I wouldn't.

or you like the security of a warranty - then go for it.

I don't think finance is really worth it. Modify your own car if it's more power you want :D

Steve, it's 2010 manual diesel

As for the costs, we can afford it as it would be pretty much the same monthly fee for the loan and yes I would love a new car. My wife, not so sure she would or not as she does really like the look of them. Might buy some flowers and chocolates to take home tonight

My current car is an elegance that has done 52,000 miles and it has a shark remap. I really like the look of the VRS and the blue colour as does the wife, but like you say is it worth paying the extra every month when I know that money will be spare to spend on something else very shortly

Dimming mirror was an option that came with auto headlights.

It's based on an ambiente so that's a guide for what will be an option.

Personally I wouldn't. B12 kit and a remap and you'd have a better handling car than a vRS with a similar amount of poke.

Bigger breaks can be done at the cost of the carriers at the next brake disk change. You can go from 288mm to 312mm using just new discs and calliper carriers. The callipers and pads are the same if you've already got an ate rather than fs iii brake set up at the front.

Sounds like you have already made up your mind and have now entered the self justification stage.

cheers, from the dealer photos I cant see the light switch.

I dont want to modifiy my current car besides the remap as I would like to be able to sell it easy enough when the time comes

Funny, just got a text from my wife saying she is drooling over a blue FD2 :giggle:

I think so, well that and talking to the wife about it. Also want to know more about the local car as I have a feeling it doesn't have the right spec anyway

Auto dimming mirrors was an option, but you would have to look around for one that had it fitted.

Given the very shortly incomming Rapid ( Nov) which is not much smaller than the current Octy, but no confirmed vRS, & OctyIII next year which is more likely to have a vRS version given its history, I personally would wait & check these out.

New dampers and bushes on the suspension plus a remap would still leave it handling well.

The b12 is a good kit and I don't think it will affect resale in a negative way. However even if you just go with oem fresh suspension will handle a lot better than suspension with 30 to 40 k miles on it.

I just don't see the point in paying 5k plus interst for less toys, a little bit more poke, a DPF and potentially a whole load of problems waiting to come out at you.

The dealer came back to me and it's pretty much standard so I will continue my search

You've convinced yourself.

Do it... You'll regret it once its gone.

The 125TDI is a very nice engine. ;)

Wife's response, As soon as you start pooing cash, sure :) x

I'd stick with summat that's got all the toys and then tart around with the engine. It's why I got what I did. B)

Forward planning!

I would love the L&K, but leather is a no due to the climate changes that either make the seats freezing or hot

A "rapid" is not a realistic option. The rapid is in at least one class, probably 2, below the octavia and is being touted as a budget car nothing more. Maybe be almost same size but its a far cheaper product. Nothing wrong with that but you shouldnt be considering one of these if an octavia is on your shopping list.

The Octavia tops the list unless I can persuade my boss to give me a decent pay rise and then I will look at the Superb as I would like more toys, refinement and still a bit of poke

I thought about a Superb, 1.8TSI Elegance, Stage 1. It'd still make 200hp /drool.
