Squeak/rattle at back edge of passenger door

Featured Replies

Was a passenger for a long trip for the first time today. On uneven roads there's what I describe as a squeak from the back edge of the passenger door. My wife listened for it when she was a passenger later and described it as a rattle. I'm pretty sure it's the door moving ever so slightly against the door rubber. Is there a lubricant that will deal with this without rotting the rubber?

By the way, wish me luck with the Bendigo dealer hopefully stopping the driver's door ratling when any bass is put through the Columbus on Thursday. It'll be my fifth request for them to sort it. I've even given them the service bulletin number. If they don't sort it I think I'll start action to reject the car, much as I like most of the rest of it. Is the sub-woofer in the driver's door?

I get a little squeak from the rear of my fab, sometimes it's the in the boot, when I've looked, it comes from the little clip that holds the carpet up by the speaker.

Thanks for that. Anyone got a solution for the issue stated in the original post?

Silicon grease

I have used silicon spray (the stuff you waterproof tents and jackets with). Spray on your finger and rub it onto the seal. Good for stopping the doors freezing to the sealsl in cold weather as well.

The Krytox GPL-105 oil is the best, wipe a small amount on after giving the seals a good clean to remove dust etc.

This stuff is liquid gold (pricey) but I was able to get some on ebay together with the GPL-205 grease for the door hinges, locks etc.

You don't need to buy a huge quantity as you don't use much...a bottle of a few grams/ounces will do the trick. BTW this the stuff that VW use.

Cheers

Thanks for the thoughts. Silicon spray seems the way to go. Will share results.

Driver's door speaker sorted yesterday. Can now listen to music instead of rattles. Seems a terrible shame that it's taken a year to find out the car has a decent sound system.

Silicon spray not sorted it. Any more thoughts?

As I said...if it is a squeak then Krytox oil/grease the door seals; if it is a more of a rattle then use the grease to lube the door lock mechanism.
