vRS advice needed

Featured Replies

Managed to get the all clear from the wife to trade in my year old CR-V and buy a new Octy vRS TSi DSG. Undecided on the colour of new car, however will be speccing it with auto lights/wipers, alcantara sports trim, sunroof, rear sensors, heated seats, MDI, spare wheel, black alloys and I think that's it.

At the last minute however, something at the back of my mind is preventing me from taking the plunge.

The reason I want it is that it's cracking value with the VAT free deal, and I reckon the new Octy will be larger and so loose it's 'hot hatch' status in vRS guise, can't see it being VAT free and can see it being at least £25k.

The new Rapid vRS however, may be a much more interesting proposition. Approx the same size as the current Octy, and possibly using the Fabia vRS drivetrain which is a blast, but that could be a good two years away.

So folks, do you think I should wait and keep my mummy mobile CR-V in the hope that Skoda continue their tradition of great vRS cars, or play it safe and buy what is already proven as a hugely practical performance bargain.

Cheers

Blair

I think your right about the new mkIII, both price and status.

I'm not sure about the Rapid with the Fabia VRS running gear, probably happen but a bigger engine would be nice if its gonna be the size of the current Octy.

As much as I want to keep the exclusivity of the Rallye Green, it does look amazing with the black alloys and believe it or not the black/red interior. I was worried the interior wouldn't go with the green, but its worked out great.

Will probably be disagreed with as a lot of people have retro fitted their's for a lot less, but I would lose the sunroof in favour of the Sat Nav (or have both).

The DSG is amazing but I do miss the thrill and involvement of manual, but I wouldn't change back to manual as the pro's far out way the cons for me.

I went from a 4x4 to an Octy... Twice, first time an 18 month old Rav4 mkII to a mkI FL VRS in 2002 and now, a week ago, from a 3yr old Grand Vitara to a mkII FL TSI DSG.

The only thing I would say is be prepared for the value to drop like a stone (but you probably already know this), as that is what happened on my old one once the new one was announced and its petrol.

My miles a year is usually sub 8000 so I didn't want the diesel and I wanted a car that I would love to drive for years to come and the TSI exceeds my expectations. Personally for me I'm happier having the TSI cos it suits me better than the diesel and I think with the oil burner I would always have that little niggling question in the back of my mind, what if I'd gone for the petrol? - this is just my personal feeling for me though.

The current Octavia is in a different league to the Fabia and Rapid in many ways.

As nice as the Rapid may be it's a budget car and will always feel a step down when compared to the Octavia.

If you get one on PCP, then by the time your 3 years is up you may well be in a position to look at trading in for a Rapid vRS?

Go for the vrs, smashing car both in looks and performance. I have just ordered my vrs Blackline tad white....trading in 37000 mile vrs tdi white. I guess the tai is faster but tdi has great mid range torque and in today's traffic not often out classed. The price is great to...collect in a couple of weeks....Dovehouse

Blair you must have pestered the life out your wife ;)

@ Dovehouse. What kinda trade you get on a 2year old tdi?

i'd go for the octavia vrs, buy now, have fun.

As the saying goes you only live once and life is to short.
