Question for the OP, why running on Kumo's if you are self professed "fussy"?(re the 4 replacment wipers)

I appreciate they have their place, but not a brand I associate with best wet grip/absolute safety related performance.

Is there some particular reason. (I know the local LR cross country race type ran Kumo's but simply because they were cheap and their tyres were always getting cut to ribbons on rocks)

regards,

marcus

Not a lot wrong with Kumho IMO Marcus!  I've run them extensively in the past on my both my Grand Scenic and on a succession of BMWs.  In KH15 and KH17 guise on the Scenic for just short of 100,000 miles in total - found these to have very good wet grip actually, better than either the Falkens I tried once due to shortage of supply in the right size for the Kumhos, and particularly better than the Michelin Energy tyres that the Scenic was fitted with for the first 50,000 of its life.  Life/mileage was about 2/3 the Michelins, but cost between 1/2 to 2/3.  So the economics were clear.

My BMW 323i ran 2 sets of KH17s over approx. 80,000 miles, and you don't put Ditchfinders on a performance vehicle - unless you really do want to spend time in the ditch.  Dry grip very good also and breakaway very progressive and predictable.

About to put some 255 width Kumho Ventus on the back of my current BMW. Having driven a similar 330d with those and found they suited me admirably.

We've run Kumho competition tyres on a succession of rally cars for over 10 years. Both gravel pattern and slicks for tarmac. When you're pushing to the limits of adhesion and beyond all the time, you need a tyre you can trust. You don't voluntarily keep going back to the same brand without that - especially when you easily get through between 4 and 8 tyres per event. You have lots of opportunity to change brand if you want to.  In fact just about to swap to Kumho for a Historic rally car (different driver), for this weekend's event in Wales. From a rival brand.

Finally - no, I don't work for Kumho.  Just have aquired a respect for the Korean products over a 20 year period. I do however have to declare the set going on this weekend were won as part of a prize draw in the Roger Albert Clark Rally Championship. Very happy with that though - as would have chosen them next anyway.

OK, lesson larned!

Filed away for when I next need tyres.

btw

I ran Hankooks on the BX Citroen, and was very pleased with them, some 20 years ago.

For all the same reasons you now attribute to Khumo.

I also larned to "disrepect" Michelin after sliding down a wet road one dark night, my father having fitted them to replace the relatively sticky but short lived Dunlop SP'4s. I had akinda expected these new tyres to grip better in the wet than the done Dunlop's!

So I no way associate tyre effigy with a brand name or names.

cheers

Marcus

I have indeed changed my avatar, how very observant of you Henry  ;)

My old avatar looked pixelated on my retina display macbook, so I created a higher res one and changed the colour at the same time.

My feeling was that you had lost a smile :| , and hoped it wasn't Yeti-related.  We can't see the old pic for comparison now, of course

Mike,

That was a while ago, I've just had an 82k service done!!

And if I wasn't off sick it would have been nearer 100k by now.

Oh dear, sorry about that. Better get my varifocals checked.

Cheers Marcus.

Our Yeti came on a set of Hankooks. Seem fine.  Will need a new pair soon.  Considering either them or Kumho, or possibly a single HK and swap one for the (unused) spare?  Depends what deal I can do with the local fitters for "3 off, 3 on".

Snowy just had his first service as mentioned above.

I drove down to Glasgow on friday in glorious sunshine, service carried out on Saturday morning by Henrys. All went well, and I had a great weekend seeing Eagles in concert at the Hydro and then Blair Drummond safari park on Sunday. Just passed the 10k mark as I arrived back home yesterday.

It was a better trip than I could hope for, not a chore at all. I'll have to see who is in concert next year when I plan my 20k service trip

My, doesn't time fly when you're enjoying yourself. 10,000 miles already. Mind you everywhere you go in Scotland is 30-40 miles plus away. When we holiday in Scotland we base ourselves in Perthshire, It's a nice holiday drive to places like Fort William, Inverarary, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth etc.

any of you guys had your cambelt belt changed yet,my yeti is coming up to four years old and dealer says it is due[guess he wants a few hundred quid of me].

Michael.

They have recently altered the cam belt regime to change every 5 years. Mine was due this year but has been put off until it's next service.

I insisted mine had a fresh cam belt, water pump and aux. belt last year, before I took delivery from the selling dealer (an Independent Skoda specialist). But then it was 3 years old and at 78,000 miles at the time. The guy didn't quibble too much, as he kind of agreed it was a good idea, and he wanted the sale. Gives me peace of mind till 150,000 anyway.

Oops!

Ah just looked at the daughters Yaris, ah done bin an fitted Kuhmo's to hit a few months ago.

Doh!

I` was "dead sure" I had blagged a cheapish set of Dunlops instead.

Middle Age related memory loss most probably

Hey HO.

Marcus

I saw my old Yeti today, my ex work colleague who has it now has chosen a new Octavia for the replacement car in two months, the Yeti has now covered 127,000 miles, timing belt has still not been changed and the Yeti is still driving well, no squeaks or rattles, still has plenty power too.

On the way home tonight, from a motor club meeting in Bristol, my car passed the 50k miles figure, so I thought I would pen a few words and facts.

Total mileage covered by me 47073

Diesel used 4598 litres

Giving an overall fuel consumption of 46.5 mpg.

About 1200 miles has been towing the caravan, which gave a consumption of 34 mpg approx.

2 services completed and the next due in about 4.5k miles.

Items replaced:

4 front windscreen wipers (I'm fussy)

1 DRL bulb (under warranty, after a protest)

1 H4 Osram Nightbreaker Plus headlight bulb, after the original Skoda fitted were replaced within a week of me getting Dewi.

1 rear number plate light bulb (when I get around to it!!)

4 new tyres, all Kumho's.

Oh, and a new OSF wing, front bumper, OSF headlight unit following an accident.

Overall we are very pleased with Dewi, so here's to another 50k!!

Well done and congrats Graham......nice to get long term owners reports like that.

Ivor is 4 on Sept 1st, and has done about 21k (from memory)

And I've reached 4000 posts :D     WOOOOOHOOOOO

I suppose I should do an up-date.

Now at 82k miles.

Fuel consumption has dropped slightly, but I put that down to having spent the last 6 months off sick, so a lot of my journeys have been short.

2 more pairs of front windscreen wipers fitted, and 1 rear one.

4 more tyres; still on the Kumho's.

2 rear springs fitted after it failed the MOT this year. Both broken about 1 coil up from the bottom.

Now being serviced by one of the garages in town, so much cheaper, and a lot more convenient.

Bodywork is showing the miles a bit. Several small dents, stone chips and scratches and I've still got a wheel arch kit to fit, but no rust. The Zinc bubbles can be seen especially on the rear doors, some of which is under the foils, which is awkward. A few rattles but nothing I wouldn't expect and some are probably from all the cr@p we seem to collect.

Still very happy with Dewi the Yeti. Probably going to look at replacing next year, but that might depend on what happens in the next month. I'm due to go into hospital to have both hands operated on at the end of this month. If that is successful that I should be able to return to work in September. If not then I will have to be medically retired.

Good luck with the operation, hope all goes well.

Sounds like Dewi still going strong, will you replace it with another when the time comes?

^ medically retired, I could do that for you, behind the box or garage!!  :-))

got the exterminator ready and waiting!!

Another Yeti of course!! Though I might look at a 110bhp 2x4 as I think that will still cope with my rally safety work almost as well. Just need to check the towing capacities.

Bog off Tone!!  :notme:  :giggle:

If I do we are going to have a nice long tour of Brittany so get the glasses ready. :cocktail:  :cocktail:

^ mothers 'ere, - none left!!   ;-D  off to Leclerc tomorrow, whats yer poison?

Graham, go for the 110 Tdi 2 x 4. 1500kg towing capacity and very refined and economical. Just done an 80 mile trip while on holiday in Banchory on Royal Deeside and trip computer showed 64.7 mpg. As I am retired, running costs are an important consideration. I think this model is a great compromise.

Currently enjoying some Loire valley rose, but anything from that area, thanks.   :cocktail:

Thanks. With that towing capacity it will fit well with my needs.

Now if I can persuade SUK to do a nice yellow one even SWMBO might be in agreement.   :giggle:

Truly good mpg.

Although I keep under 70mph over 10000 miles I have only averaged 50mpg (Maxidot 53mpg). Shall have to keep a lighter right foot.
