Hello. Is the clutch pack essentially the same as a mechatronic unit ?

Or is it totally different ?

The mechatronic unit is basically the gears and associated electronics.

The clutch pack is seperate I believe.

Phil

The clutch pack is separate from the mechatronic unit.

The mechatronic unit is basically a combination of electronic control module and hydraulic actuators that actually controls the operation of the gearbox.

Thanks

So is the clutch pack physically installed in the gear box area also ?

In a DSG the clutch pack is inside the gearbox. The gearbox needs to come out to replace the clutch pack, whereas the mechatronics unit can be replaced relatively easily, with the gearbox still in the car.

You don't hear of clutch packs failing on the 6 speed wet clutch gearbox very much....seems to be limited to the 7 speed dry clutch DSG.

Thanks Booke
