Car & Driver Pics (Advice Please)

Featured Replies

I have to do some pics of "me & my car" for a magazine (nothing remotely exciting I assure you !) and wondered what would be the best approach..?

Do cars look best from an angle, sideways on, rear quarter or what. ?

Does the driver (me) lean on the bonnet looking cool (a pretty difficult feat for me this one !)?

or stand behind an open door grinning inanely ?

Or is it just a case of trial and error as to what works best ?

If it ever stops raining SWMBO is in charge of the camera and I'll be doing the modelling.

Any input always welcome.

Put on a bikini and lay on the bonnet.

Job done. :giggle:

Actually, being serious I find all cars have better angles than others. Not always the same for every car.

Take a good few pics of the car from different angles and elevations and have a look at the results. They can vary wildly IMO.

Agreed about the car; similar feelings about how you should pose.

Its not that sort of magazine...........

Thanks.

With regard to angles to shoot the car from just use Google Images and search for car photography. Lots of great ideas.

Also have a look at the manufacturers website & promotional materials, adverts, etc. as they will obviously want their car to be seen in the best position / angle / etc.

You don't have to be in / on the car at all. There are lots of driver portraits with the car in the background (or vice versa).

Choose the right lighting conditions to shoot in otherwise your pictures will just be snapshots.

Choose the right location / background as this can add to or ruin the 'story' in the picture.

Look for textures that either contrast with the cars lines (gravel, leaves, rocks) or compliments it (water, new Tarmac, curved roads). Think about textures.

Drop me a PM if you are anywhere near Hereford / Worcester (I can't see your location ATM).

He says "Black Country", so what about 60 to 90 mins up the M5 from you?

Thanks for the input chaps.

From here to Hereford is a very pleasant cross country jaunt (I have just had the car serviced in Leominster so that was a "missed opportunity...!",) and you certainly steer clear of the M 5..

I'll have a bash myself as I like to treat this as a learning exercise (as will writing the piece to go with it..!) .

Thanks again for the offer & I will be in touch if they look like snapshots.
