Skoda octavia vrs tdi AC compressor!

Featured Replies

Recently I bought a vrs from my brother and it had an AC problem (compressor fault)

After alot of quotes for the repair £800-1000 :(

I decided to get the part and fit it myself with a little help from my AC friend to legally drain the system, and I must say it was a dam sight easier than I thought,

Would well advise a DIY repair, with no major experience I did it with a Haynes manual in hand,

I first removed the bumper grills etc, then removed air intake pipe and bonnet catch cable,

The car has a front chassy section which can be slid (on two pieces of threaded bar) forward into a service mode for easy access to the front section of the engine!

I then removed the belt which is on a spring tensioner, this'll I did this my AC friend remove the gas and disconnected the pipes.

Then I removed the three bolts holding compressor and fitted the new one, put on a new belt,

Then we connected the hoses and vac'd the system to remove moisture and refilled it with AC gas.

We then put the front back into position and bolted back together and refitted bumper!

From start to finnish in 2:30 hours

I'm now one very happy vrs owner!

Did you backflush the system to remove any fragments of the old compressor?

If not your new compressor won't last long.
