160 Air Intake Recommended!!!!!

Featured Replies

shouldn't cost much if done when getting serviced!

TBH How could an insurance company know????? (Flame suit on and Ready)

Just ordered mine! Should be able to pick it up from the dealers by the end of the week!

ag.morley: to make you feel better ive paid the same price as you

Insurance companies generally allow dealer-fitted options without a problem (i.e. the policy does not exclude them, nor does it cause premium changes). Annoyingly however there is a problem with non-standard options that alter the car.

Even ICE-related items may not be insured (although most do, worth checking for how much if you have an expensive setup though).

Engine-related modifications/alterations of any kind tend to cause premium increases. Same for suspension changes, which a strut brace would probably fall under.

Anything more 'radical' like a FMIC or coil-overs, brake upgrades beyond the normal pads, may cause issues too. I doubt a brake-fluid upgrade would cause problems but again, you may be best-off checking first.

If you don't tell the insurer they can end up using it as a reason/excuse not to pay up when you are in need of making a claim. Basically you're then driving an uninsured vehicle (or you were driving it...) and that is illegal too, which has it's own potential consequences ;)

Sux that though, although I can imagine it from their (need to make money-)perspective.

There are mod-friendly insurers out there though and you'll spot one in the adverts above the site regularly :D - I'm still awaiting feedback from my insurance broker, see what they say :)

What are the insurance implications? Anyone had a quote with it on (without remap)? Also, is it classed as a performance modification on the insurance?

Just notified my good egg insurance company of my intention (ahem) to fit PD160 intake, strut brace and milotec grille. They have noted the modifications on my policy and I should call them when items fitted  They do not consider any of them performence enhancing therefore no increase to my premiums :D

Nice one Jonny5ive - may have to consider those guys ;)

OT

They were very helpful when insuring my vRS as a second vehicle with them. It is in SWMBO's name and she had 0 NCD. They mapped across my 4+yrs NCD and applied it to this policy as a 2nd driver discount :D:D:D Premiums/renewals are reasonable also.

Mikey....Glad to hear you paid the same as me  Perhaps our plastic is of slightly better quality or have nothing to do with Kia

Hope so! Anyways we're rich enough to afford that extra 42p lol. Should fit them on the day of purchase (saturday) and test it out on the day. watch this space.

Well you could claim the intake is a standard manufacturers part. Just not Skoda's !!

It's a standard VAG part - which is what I told my insurance broker, and that is the truth. Also it will be dealer fitted - again, true. Hasnt got a Skoda badge on it but then a lot of the other parts in the car don't have those ;)

Fitted mine 5 mins ago in work carpark....zorst seems intially cleaner and a slightly different sound. Will be fitting green panel also at weekend hopefully so will try and write more of a detailed review once i have more base!

i fitted mine after i got a new `zorst and to be honest that made a much bigger difference than the intake pipe. Turbo sounds slightly different now tho.

Jonny5ive, let us know what the score is with it on - timed runs would be great (to eliminate the placebo effect these things have) but not essential :)

Fully fitted in about 2.5 minutes (ish)

My Thoughts in no particular order:

1. Smoother acceleration

2. Less Smoke

3. Feels more responsive under hard acceleration

4. Engine sounds a little more "growly" and sounds as if it is "breathing" easier

On the whole glad I fitted it and a good mod for

Just collected and fitted mine this morning (took about 5 mins). Mostly agree with Steph although I've only tried it for about 5 miles. Definetely a massive reduction in the amount of smoke and worth the money just for that. Mabye a bit smoother?? I'll reserve my opinion until I put a few more miles on.

Yes these are standard Seat parts. Look at the technical guides at the top of the page for part numbers.

Did you notify insurers? How much?
