**MONTE OWNERS** Headlight upgrades? What have you done?

Featured Replies

Now I have my Monte then I can comment directly on that.

Asked the dealer to check and adjust the headlights to the upper limit allowed before delivery. Not sure if they did but after fitting the same nightbreaker plus bulbs that had been in the Elegance, then I can say I'm happier with the Monte's lights than the Elegance in dipped beam. In high beam however it is noticeable that the separate H7 reflector 'spot' lamps are absent.

Light beam pattern with the nightbreakers fitted is very similar to that of the xenon's in the Yeti, albeit not as bright and clear. In both cases there's a clearly defined light beam cut off, which can be a little annoying in the nose dips, such as down hill as this tends to shorten the beam and reduce vision ahead.

How do you adjust the beem to make it higher then? I am thinking of getting philips diamond vision 5000k bulbs for my monte, anyone know if they are any good?

Thanks :)

A friend has them in his Golf mkV. They have a nice light blue hue, and are noticeably brighter than standard bulbs, but they're nowhere near as bright as the Xtremes in mine. If you're after good looks, get the Diamonds. If you're after brightness, get the Xtremes.

To adjust the beam, there's a hex screw at the back of the headlight, near the top and towards the middle. Turning it anti-clockwise raises the beam in most cars.

This might be a really dumb question but...

There is at least an unused "space" for a separate high beam on the VRS light units, isn't there? I take it the is no actual lamp in the housing though. (I'm still waiting for mine to arrive)

Would it not be possible to pop a H7 in the unused reflector and wire it up as though it was an aftermarket driving lamp?

No the redundant reflector has become the sidelight and is on with the dipped beam, very much as the pre FL headlights worked.

Oh, okay, I never thought to try the lights on my test drive. That's a real pity. Thanks

Thanks for your help. Yeah I like the look of the diamonds as I wanted HID's but the insurers won't allow it :( are the diamonds noticeabley dimmer and will they be brighter than my standard ones as I don't wont to lose the performance of the lights

Thanks.

Like I said, both the Diamonds and the Xtremes are brighter than the standard bulbs, whichever you choose between them, you will have an improvement over standard bulbs. Between the Diamonds and the Xtremes though, the Xtremes are considerably brighter than the Diamonds.
