Pioneer Double Din Head Unit - Picure viewing etc.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Ive had my head unit for a while now and only just trying to use things like photo viewing and similar things.

But every time i try to view it i get a warning message come up to say i cant view while driving. Obviously this is a safety feature but i cant see anywhere to turn it off.

Any help is greatly apreciated :)

Cheers,

Carl

if its the DVD one the clip the pink handbrake cable to the black earth cable on the std loom, job done. Driving wheile you can see a playing DVD is illegal - you have been warned!

lol i dont plan on it but atm it wont work if im driving or not!

Yeah it is the DVD one. AVH-2400

So for a noob....

Is this pink handbrake cable just loose in behind the head unit?

Cheers,

Carl

Nah it will be attached to the handbrake hence why you cant watch anything when the handbrake is off, cut it and re joint it

Remember the word noob  .

Sorry im not too good at this.

So do i have to take off all the coverts etc. leading up to where the head unit is?

if you pull the aftermarket radio out you will find a really long wire that goes nowhere usually (it can be pink, or light green depending on the radio), by law if its fitted professionally this should be connected to your handbrake so the dvd/screen only works while the handbrake light is on (i.e the handbrake is on) how ever its a pain in the arse & we always use to get customers to sign a disclaimer saying we couldnt fit it to their handbrake and had earthed it off the loom meaning the dvd worked all the time. And that watching it while on the road is illegal.

Cool i will have a go at the weekend thanks mate :).

Won't be watching any DVD's on it while stationary or driving i have a nice TV at home for that lol.

But it does have an APP mode when my iphone is plugged in so it could be cool to have my tomtom showing on the screen! :bandit:

Best thing to use is the black wire in the radio loomk and connect the trimmed down pink/green wire, that should go to the handbrake. Use a scotch lock - bit of a pikey way of doing it, but it is the easiest if you dont have a soldering iron and flux & some heat chrink

As i dont have any of the above equipment i will be getting a scotch lock! Im no stranger to the pikey way of doing things

Thanks for the help mate!

there is a video on youtube showing you how to do it.............. however I have always done it the legal way. I have never broken any laws - they were fractured when I got there!

I might have attached the long green wire to the cigarette lighter earth (brown wire??) Been a while..

Interesting, never been aware of any specific laws against having a head unit capable of playing a DVD in motion. Suspect there is no specific law, but it's obviously not a good idea to be watching the Fast and The Furious as you're about to plough through the central reservation :D

The screen must not cause distraction to the driver (drop down roof mounted or headrest mounted DVD units are fine as the driver can't see these) - watching a DVD while driving is knowingly breaking a law and you can end up charged with dangerous driving - or driving without due care and attention. Why do you think these safety's are there in the first place? You can now get multi layered screens which means the passenger sees the movie & the driver sees the sat nav. (Top end porsche, rolls & bentleys use this system.)

Worst case you get caught is 6 points - a day in court and about a £500+ fine.

i think im getting ahead of myself. as i dont know anything about this really.

But is it as simple as just connecting this handbrake wire bit to any exposed metal in the car? or even the unit itself as thats earthed surely?

If not if i conect it to any earth wire using a scotch lock?

Anyone?? :( i would love to get it sorted at the weekend.

A mate of mine just used a multi meter to find a good earth and his rip speed one worked fine, alert from the cr*p quality of the heady bit in general :D

Using that as a reference - if you connect it into the brown cable attaching to the black ISO block of the cars wiring loom, using your scotch connector. That is a common earth and it should work fine (presuming it is an earth you need!). You cannot mistake the cable - it is the only brown one attached to the black block. Ignore the brown block, that is for speakers.
