Car steaming up constantly

Featured Replies

Since getting my Fabia VRS a week ago i have noticed the car steams up alot but mostly when its damp outside.

So today i decided to have a look as to why, when i checked the air box i noticed i could see the rubber on the air filter all the way down the left handside where the latches are.

For the life of me i cant get the lid of the air box on correctly and constantly see the air filter, am i missing something?

Im no N00b when it comes to cars and have stripped/built them for years so this is slightly embarrasing

Leaky door seals

Does the airbox sound normal though? i will try new door seals all round if i manage to get the airbox sorted

I'd ditto the first comment, check leaky rear door seals.

Evening,

Have you accidentally set the heater to recirculate mode?

Have you checked the scuttle drains? A common problem. If blocked water or very wet air is blown into the car so you'll get condensation but not the wet patches on the floor due to door problems.

I have noticed that below my doors there are pools of water on the rubbers but as of yet none in the car so i will do the door sealant fix anyway. I will also check the scuttle panel, im going to take a picture of my airbox to show you what i mean as it doesnt look right at all

99.99% sure its the door carrier seals, there are guides to fix this on you tube.

As for the air box - mine did this it was a tight fit all the way round so thought it was ok?

Mine doesnt appear to be a tight fight and im pretty sure there is a gap at the back, thinking of taping over it

jon_woo,

just take it apart and reseat it.

looks fine to me.... Mine looks like that now I have taken my k and n out. Didn't notice before as the k and n was surrounded by black foam rubber. In any case, if you have water on your door seals then it IS getting in to your car. I'd bet my left testicle on it... Give all your carpets a firm press with the flat of your hand. If the rain over there is as bad as I've been hearing then you should find some wet. Fit curtains to affected doors to stop further ingress until you get a chance to seal the carriers up again. Also the fogging could be a damp pollen filter. Whip it out of the nearside footwell and check that too. But if there's water ON the seals then they are leaking mate.

Keeping it parked on the flat will help reduce ingress too, two wheels up on the kerb is not a good idea, nor is backing it down a slight slope. Mrs grrs car didn't leak on the flat but did when parked either way I just mentioned.

My filter is like this so I'm guessing it is normal mate

Cheers for the replys, i would say its a design floor though as you can see where the dirty air is going in the side of the airbox over the top of the filter....

Does anyone know if the doors on the front need sealing? i noticed when cleaning the car today they are getting wet inside the same as the backs

Just do the lot mate, All 4 can be easily done with 1 tube of sealant. You may want to get some doorcard clips from skoda first. They are about 25p each as you'll probably break some when you tackle the job

Do the front door cards come off the same as the back? i have the guide for the back and i will be off to the dealers to get the clips

I think the main difference with the fronts is there are some screws at the bottom., and under the cover thingy at the front, there are 2 screws, but only one of them needs to come off. The front ones separate from the door at the top easier than the rear ones.

Ok cheers i will give it ago

On my car its the left rear door that is the PITA....I don't think I've experienced wet front doors

Maybe also depends how you park your car facing elements though too

I did mine with black gutter sealant which is the best but its still gone through and needs doing again.....newspaper under and over the rear matt for now !

Wouldnt say it was steaming up constantly though....aircon quickly sorts the slight condensation to be honest. Will be more of a PITA when it starts to freeze tho

Dont use newspaper as a temporary measure. Just get a bin bag, cut it in half, get some clothes pegs and in the door pocket peg the bag on. Then just run the bag to the outside and close the door. Hey presto no more leaks at all! Ive left mine like this now, they've been sealed twice and still leak!

yup, curtains...

i've got a k+n filter which is black and isn't noticeable, but it must be the way its designed.

check the pollen filter, it was clogged solid on the wifes and stopped vitrually all airflow (also killed the fan resistor due to overheat)

replaced pollen filter and fan resistor then all ok screen cleared normally

pollen filter is behind polystyrene panel under glove box
