Servicing Intervals?

Featured Replies

Hiya my Octavia Elegance which is on an 07 plate is due for its service as told by my onboard computer. Its just done 80,000 miles / 120,000 km which i presume is the normal service plus the diesel particle fileter inspection..i'm getting it done by an indy.....what should i expect them to do?

80k service is cambelt change, and you should do water pump while on with the cam belt.

I thought that was 90,000 miles and it doesn't say anything about the water pump in my handbook?

My cam belt was definitely 80k, and you are right it doesn't tell you to change the water pump. But people do it then though cos it's only a few extra quid and its better of doing while you have everything apart.

It saves on labour costs if/when it fails or needs doing.

I changed my water pump when I had my cam belt changed. The original impeller on the factory fitted water pump was made of plastic and have been known to break over time. I replaced mine with a water pump with a metal impeller as it is unlikely to come apart like the plastic one.

It makes sense to do it whilst changing the cam belt rather than later and having to shell out for the labour.

Hope this helps.

If your Octavia is a 2007 the cambelt should have been changed at four years - or last year.

The 4 year time limit isn't mentioned in the manual but is now the official recommendation by Skoda UK.

This has generated lots of debate on here. As it not mentioned in the manual some reckon it is simply a money making scheme by Skoda. There is a disclaimer in the manual saying that you should contact your dealer for the latest service updates, which would then of course include the four year interval.

Using an indy and as the car is out of warranty makes it easier to choose which one to believe!

How many services has the car had?

Is it on fixed (time and distance) servicing (1 year or 10,000 miles) or variable servicing (car monitors driving style and the oil quality) and flags up for a service when it needs one (up to two years or approx 20,000 miles).

What you get on a fixed (minor) or variable service (major) is detailed here:
