vehicle speed sensor

Featured Replies

Hi just cleared error code for the vehicle speed sensor but the speedo still working, is the vehicle speed sensor common problem i.e working but bringing up a fault?

Is TPS the best place to get new one from?

cheers Dan

Could this be caused by a faulty brake light switch? not sure myself but I know it can cause silly problems

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

Dont know but will take a look at the brake light switch as well as the vehicle speed sensor :)

Check the plug on the sensor, due to its location on the diff they quite often get wet and start to corrode out.

Check the reversing lights. If they don't work you have a blown fuse or a faulty wire.

Hi checked brake light switch working fine, checked reverse lights working fine. Checked connector wasn't corroded bought new sensor and management light stayed off for 2 days but now back on and if I clear it is back in a day or so. Thinking maybe rewiring the plug?? Anyother ideas appriciated cheers Dan

What is the fault code you are getting?

Error getting is vehicle speed 'a' range performance, with code ecm p-0501. Any ideas?

Check that you have 12V at pins 2 and 3 of the sensor connector. Move the wires about and see if it changes. If it does you've found the problem.

Follow the wires back until you reach a black, 14-pin connector. Check for breaks/bad connections here too.

The generic error code P0501 means that the ECU is not getting the roadspeed signal. On your car the output from the sensor is processed by the the dash insert and sent on to the ECU, so the dash insert/wiring to the ECU could also be at fault.

It is certainly worth scanning the car with VCDS as this may show up more specific information (Haldex, Instruments, etc).
