New phone choice?

Featured Replies

It's anodised aluminium, so yes it will scratch off if you are rough or not careful with it

This may be of interest to some though:

Your choice, robust aluminium or cheap to produce plastic. :giggle:

Unless under lab conditions with multiple handset drops per model type. (say 3 iphones v 3 S3 etc) results are meaningless.

Generally the harder the material, the more shock per impact, and the more stress on the screen which already a high risk the bigger you go. So I'd expect per x handset drops plastic or plastic/rubberised chassis to withstand more than metal

  • EXACTLY ! You pay your money and take your chance. My point is people claiming that iphones are in some way "special" or even more laughable, for "special" people. They may make you "FEEL" special but

  • tell me more about your sister

  • As long as it's a droid I'm all for it !! All I can say is HTC, or Samsung as an alternative

Dropped my s2 and cracked the screen, no big problem as have insurance though the bank 25 quid excess not bad only thing I've done in 6 months. Had my Nokia n82 for less than a week and had to pay 80 quid for a new screen lest the s2 still works lol

I've got an Xperia of some sort at the minute (arc I think - LT15i either way). Very nice phone and I'm pleased with it. Since a recent update though network coverage (GSM/Wifi) has got a bit flakey. The first ICS update was good, this updated update not so much, but I assume that's model specific?

Battery's good too. In Europe, with no data on it was lasting around 5-7 days! Gets up to 3 in the UK with little use, or 1-2 normally. I just wish it was a dual-core as it's a little slow at times, but rarely an 'issue'.

Anyway, my contract is due for renewal soon and I'm looking for another Sony Xperia. If I can't find one cheap enough (£10pm atm) I'll stick with this phone, which is rare as I usually get bored quickly and says something for it. Mum's got an xperia neo v or something, and she shares my views.

Had a few HTC experiences, none of them good long term at all. Windows Lumia is a nice enough phone, just the OS isn't to my taste. Very fast/slick though, if a little boring (much like the iPhone, all menu icons, no real widgets as such which is what annoys me - you rarely need to open apps with the right widgets IME).

Dad's got a cheap Samsung Galaxy of some sort (sub £100) and while it's clearly cheap, it's been faultless so far. Survived multiple drops too.

With the Apple vs. others thing - most I see are in cheap Superdry/Bench/etc silicon shells, negating the 'quality' feel. . . (Maybe my friends are just careless with them, or overly paranoid, or don't want the scratch the non-user-serviceable back?) Sister has an iPhone 4 which has never seen the light of day as it's gone straight into a case.

Apple have the BEST designed & BEST finish on their phones, this is a fact and is undeniable.

not too good at getting aeriels to work without a rubber temp fix though, are they ;)

and as for build quality

:giggle:

Apple isn't meant to be a phone for the masses, slightly more expensive etc.

Really ? So why do "masses" of people have them then ? I'm sure Apple would be happier selling less !

The iphone is just a cheaply produced mass market phone the same as all the rest. If you belive otherwise then you have sucumb to the reality distortion field that Jobs created !

Suppose you are going to tell us I can't put it in the oven, go swimming with it or use it to stop an angle grinder without damaging it next? how are we going to cope? :o

Each to there own, as I have already sai we have numerous phones in the house and the iPhone seems to be the better, you buy what you choose, I did.

I've just got my s3 today, not using it properly till the case and dash mount arrives, I use the torque app a lot which won't work with the I phone unless you buy a costly wifi adapter for the OBD. I think I would of considered a iphone if it did work.

Mind you in while I was waiting to be served today they sold 5 s3s which surprised me lol

Apple boys just cant help trying to validate their choice.

Don't need to validate my choice... It was MY choice after all...

And all the others are pap

Apple boys just cant help trying to validate their choice.

just like the collective can't help putting anything/everything else down? I don't want to be a part of that clique any more than I want to be a part of the Apple thing

Dont think anyone is putting anything down, just responding to the apple trolls. :)

So I'm a troll because I have an iPhone?

if you like it all laid and you just do as it says /does then go for an iPhone

really? and then there is the automatic fanboi/troll/sheep response whenever anyone mentions anything Apple, but that's basically the same as anyone buying an Audi or being an idiot badge snob for not buying a Skoda. which is pretty much par for the course?

So I'm a troll because I have an iPhone?

Of course you are, didn't you know that's the way it works, if you like an Apple product you are an iSheep for following the herd and any comment you make you are just trolling, whereas all the other phone users are not.

(Yes I own a couple of Apple products)

Soon as it upsets people so much, I'm gonna buy an iPad a MacBook and an Apple TV for good measure

do we not all own Skoda cars, therefore we must be skoda sheep too.

I have an iPhone, Mac Book Pro, iMac and iPod and I bought the wife an iRon, it is a pointy thing that gets hot.

I think it's a case of say the next octavia. Are you 100% buying one no questions or need to test drive one first?

Then look at some Iphone folk who'd already resigned to buying even before the apple event detailing anything about it.

Before MWC12 I was very interested in the htc quad core offering. The spy shots and rumoured spec interested me greatly. BUT then came the launch of the one series which greatly disappointed. I hadn't already sold my handset and bought a tent to park outside the shop for one.

That's basically what those who haven't signed up to the apple world can't understand. It'd be called a cult if we were talking about a religious group rather than a phone/electronics company.

So I'm a troll because I have an iPhone?

Did anyone call you one?

Soon as it upsets people so much, I'm gonna buy an iPad a MacBook and an Apple TV for good measure

Already have those. Love my ATV3 and Macbook, iPad is a kids toy now, best childcare device ever!

If only Nokia kept up with the times, wonder if they'll ever catch up?

The latest Lumia models are pretty nice. I may look at them next year depending on how Windows comes along.

That's the problem is windows going to catch on properly as an operating system? There's apple, android and to a lesser extent blackberry. I don't know anyone with or even seen a windows phone in public. Nokia really need to invest in android aswell as windows, other company's do

Microsoft have all but taken over Nokia: the CEO and Deputy CEO are former Microsoft employees (hmmmm.) Microsoft reputedly paid Nokia 1 Billion US Dollars to develop exclusively for WP7 on their smart phones presumably there is an even bigger golden handcuffs deal for WP8.

There is an offshoot firm of former Nokia employees called Jolla, who are developing using the MeeGo platform, who are receiving positive interest, time will tell if they are successful.

Nokia 6210 was the best phone I have ever had, it could hold loads of numbers and the battery lasted a week, good for me as I travel with work. With the smart phone I am forever drinking coffee next to plug sockets so I can steel some electricity!

Interesting to see Samsung are using Windows on their new range demonstrated recently. Think they are hedging their bets with all the lawsuits.
