Yeti pulls in double win at Towcar of the Year Awards

Featured Replies

The Yeti has taken top honours in two categories at the prestigious Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards: All Wheels Drive under 1,800kg, and Vehicle Excise tax bands G, H and I.

That second category may sound a little unusual; the award entrants were divided by Vehicle Excise Duty tax bands rather than price.

The awards were judged by motoring journalists and caravanning experts. The Yeti wowed them all with its impressive towing capability. Judges praised its “load capacity, high-speed stability, cornering prowess and ride”.

ŠKODA UK Brand Director Alasdair Stewart said: “The Yeti is an astonishingly versatile vehicle, so it’s no surprise that it continues to win awards across the board. The caravanning community has always been extremely supportive of ŠKODA; the Superb Estate is already a double-winner at the Towcar of the Year Awards, so it’s fantastic that the Yeti’s exceptional offering for these customers has been recognised this year.”

The awards were decided following a series of rigorous tests at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire. All 23 entrants were tested for their acceleration, reversing, high-speed towing, emergency braking and ride and handling capabilities.

Oh no - the secondhand value of my Yeti just plummeted ! Any cool factor from the Top Gear helicopter/fire/Ferrari clip just got wiped out by this 'prestigious Caravan Club award"!!!!!

Quite the opposite, it now makes it more desirable for us old folks.

There are already of us tin-snail shell tuggers on here, Deputy, so be careful, very careful........... :drunk:

Already posted about the wins a while back.

Mine earned towing gold stars again this afternoon when towing across to Balbirnie Park Caravan Club site in Fife ... firstly when getting out of the way of a T*at in an AMG Merc who nearly swipped us off the road twice with his foolish driving (then nearly went head long into a bus when passing a lorry in front of us) ... then beating the foolish child in the BMW away from the lights, oh the look on his face when Yeti and Benmore went sailing off into the distance with him in our dust!

I'll be careful - though to be honest, if we find ourselves in the same town. I'll make a quick getaway by running out of my boutique hotel suite (having used the express checkout service so I can just leave), jump in my car and briskly accelerate up to 70mph on the motorway.

By the time you guys have packed up, taken down the awnings, hitched up the van, checked the electrics, strapped on those extended mirror thingys and got cruising at 60mph, I'll be safe! :giggle:

But we'll catch you up when you stop for fuel :giggle:

Probably not, as even driven fast, a solo Yeti is more economical than one towing a brick. I get between 25 & 30mpg towing, which is about the same as driving my Diesel DSG around congested South London.

A "snail shell tugger"? I'm sure you can get locked up for that round here :o

Rockhopper, I usually get 36mpg towing but a recent trip to Cheshire returned 38, very pleased! This is with a mileage since new of 7500 so it might get better.

Fred

Normally about 30 for me with the 170 towing 1400Kg.

As for Deputy ... you stay in your boutique hotel, I'll stay in my luxury caravan ... horses for courses and all that!

At least we know how clean the sheets are, and that the chamber maid hasn't "meddled" with our tooth brushes, don't we Iain?

My towing was up and down steep hills on A & B roads, keeping to the appropriate speed limit where possible, especially up the hills  this car has more torque than most tow cars I saw out on the road  and my experience of towing is summed up in the car being voted top in the report.

Here here Graham, and you can't stop at a services and make your own cup of tea when you want it in a hotel!

Ian
