Unit 18 sent the PD130 hybrid turbo off to Turbo Technics to be checked over, report came back from them today.

Needs a replacement back plate, new bearings and seals then its heading back for fitting.

Hopefully the cylinder head will be off today so we can see what shape its in....

  • Pssst.... Anyone wanna see my retrim?

  • Just need to paint the grille a different colour. I see you have been experimenting with that! Maybe just black or might even try to get a spray can made up of the same paint as the wheels....

Gulp - Update time....

Facing a bigger bill now. Camshaft is worn out which in turn has worn out the lifters.

Are there any uprated parts I should get sourcing to replace these?

Pit, Money. Re-arrange those words!

Should think yourself lucky it's isn't a touareg you own.. It's an engine out job to do on one of those!

On the other hand, think how much better to drive it will be!

My engine is practically out! Lol. I keep telling myself it will be better after all this, didn't have the heart to sell it as it was.

It's eaten into the FMIC/coilovers fund though....

Just put them on a credit card! :D

the newer oem lifters are black topped, and much better than those original silver topped ones. Replacing with oem will be the best move. Around a tenner per lifter from memory. Don't expect much change from £600 or so for a full cam/lifter replacement job.

Might have to!

There's no 'might' about it!

It's got the replacement cam kit on there. It's all OEM sourced thankfully.

Just wasn't expecting such a huge bill when I initially took it in for a coolant leak.

Need to see a nicely modified Fabia VRS in the metal to give me new inspiration! :-)

I've been using that excuse for years.. Need to keep off the Internet, it'll be easier on your pockets no doubt!

Oh man. Keep your head up.

Where did you buy the turbo from?

  • Author

Cheers dude,

Bought it off a member here, it needed servicing so might as well get it all, done.

Picked up the motor from Unit 18 on Friday after all the work on the head and turbo.

The drive home was absolutely epic, the car really has been transformed. The power delivery is a lot smoother across the board with no silly spikes like other maps I've had before on VAG cars. No specific reports on power yet but hopefully will get it on the rolling road next month. Ali @ Unit18 believed it would be around the 175bp marque with around 290lbs of torque.

Hopefully will be back at Unit18 next month for some VMAXX coilovers action!

It's always good to see the reports when someone gets the car mapped really well :)

Yeap for sure mate, sooooo glad mine works at the minute. Should only cost £30 odd

Really? The local place I found was £80 for a regas, uv check for leaks and antibacterial spray

Hi Xavier, yeah turbo is running great thanks. Had issues with the injectors though after the head rebuilt so had to replace one of those and the injector loom.

Also this week it decided to chuck all the brake fluid out over one of the rear wheels so its back in the garage again today......

Good to hear, although not so good with the brakes.

Hope you get to enjoy it properly soon :) Can't wait to carry on with mine and finally stretch the bigger turbo - glad yours is running great after the refurb and remap. :)

Been a while since the last update but I'm planning a retrim next month which is hopefully going to tart up my old standard seats. Picked up this little beauty from a breakers today too!
