Electric Windows

Featured Replies

Spent all day trying to fix windows on Fabia 1.4 2001 I have just purchased.

Windows will go down but not up on both drivers and passenger doors. Passenger windows go down operated from both drivers side and passenger side switches. I have removed motor and put 12v across terminals and I can get motor to go both ways by swapping +ve and -ve. Continuity tests show no break from switch to motor. Holding key in open position lowers both windows but will not come up holding in lock position. The only conclusion I can draw upon is a problem in the circuit boards attached to the motors. With the motor disconnected you can hear the relay clicking on down but no noise when switching up.. Any ideas? Is this a common problem and basically will buying a new motor fix the issue? Can you just buy the new circuit boars rather than complete assembly. Help please as I do not want to buy new motor if that is not the cause. Many thanks

Could try checking the fuses. Someone had issues with contacts on fuses becoming dirty and had window problems. There has also been the odd issue with "loose" relays.

All else fails, you could try vwvortex. Lots of information over there on VW doors/windows/locks. Finding the right thread could take time though.

Also, also, check behind the kick panels. See if that area is dry and that the connectors in the vicinity are good/dry.

Thanks for prompt response, is there a separate fuse for up then? I assumed that as they go down the fuse would be OK.

Assume pulleys and wires not fooked (like mine were last year)?

Reading through it - have you actually checked the switches?

Hi David, no havn't actually checked the switches. As the auto function on lock did not work I assumed this bypassed switches.
