Turbo timer

Featured Replies

Seems like a perfect mod to do to the fabia. Even more so with me having a brand new turbo and all rest of it.

Has anybody installed one of these on a VAG?

Jake

I bought one for mine, took it to a garage to be fitted after he messed about with it ages, couldn't get it to work, because you have to bypass the immobiliser ect ect,so i decided not to bother coz it seemed a bit extreme when you can just sit in the car for 30secs with it running and do the same thing as timer would.

It can n has been done, but from what ive seen n heard on here its a real pain in the ass to get done right and more hassle than its worth.

The turbo timer will count down but wont keep the engine running. As vrs'burks said you have to bypass the immobiliser and its a ball ache. Also you dont need a turbo timer for the vrs as was said in a recent post.

As already mentioned, no point as fitting it will invalidate the thatcham immobiliser and you'll need to tell the insurance since you have made the car easier to steel.

A mate if mine has one on his Ibiza fr, 2007. It works brilliantly, his dad wired it up which didn't take him long and there's a safety lead going to the handbrake so if anyone tries to steal it it cuts out and the alarm still worked. Him and myself both bought one at trax last year for £30 each, but when it came to his dad fitting mine for me we found that to fit it to the fabia you'd have to take the steering wheel off to get at the appropriate wires. He said that all the other cables looked the same apart from that :)

I really wana do it :(

It's absolutely pointless. I've got one. I didn't fit it. The most useful feature it has is that it has a voltmeter also, so I can see what voltage my alternator puts out. The "turbo timer" part hasn't worked for ages because my calipers are knackered and I don't use the handbrake anymore, but by the time I've done the last 100 feet of my journey off-boost, pulled up, popped my seatbelt off, opened the door, it's had a good 60+ second cooldown anyway so the extra 30 seconds I'd be comfortable leaving the turbo timer running for is fairly pointless.

Also while it's in turbo timer mode the keyfob remote buttons won't work (although there is a fix for this by modifying the convenience module) and if you lock with the keys when the engine is running, the alarm isn't armed fully (IIRC mine didn't do the "bleep" when I key locked it with the turbo timer running).

It's a gadget on any car, and even more so on a PD130, you're better off saving your money and applying common sense. For the record, my insurers know about it, and weren't bothered, but your milage may vary.
