Fabia Classic 1.4 TDI 70 - problem with starting engine

Featured Replies

Hi All,

We bought a Skoda Fabia (reg Aug 2007) about six months ago with 28,000 miles on the clock and it's gone like a dream - until last night.

In a nutshell, I drove the car for 10 mins to pick up my son from a friend's house and when he came out the house after a bit of teenage dawdling, the engine would not start.

It seemed as if they engine was trying its best to turnover, but would not quite make it. I left it 15 minutes or so, then it finally sprang to life. I then drove it home and it was fine, it was fine this morning and ok again tonight although my wife said the engine started noisily.

I generally only drive the car at weekends, it's my wife who uses it most, but now she is worried about it failing on her. Any advice on this would be very welcome. I did ring the RAC (and then cancelled when the engine started) and their mechanic suggested it could have been an air bubble, but is that credible?

As I said, any advice on what this could be would be gratefully received.

Might need new battery?

This sounds like job for Estateman! I`m sure he will have some sound advice and comments. As the RAC said, it could be an air bubble in the fuel system, but I haven`t heard of it being a problem in recent times. Could it be contaminanted fuel? Dodgy infector? I guess you`ll have to see if it happens again to see if its a re occurring problem. If it does, it maybe easier to find.

Know much help I`m afraid but if there is an answer, someone here will know the answer!

Thanks for this. It's definitely not the battery and I've been out last night and tonight in it without any problems. Maybe the air bubble theory was right after all. Fingers crossed as one of the reasons we bought a Skoda was for its reliability!
