Do I need an engine cover?

This is my engine bay

As you can see it doesn't have a cover on the engine. This sort of slightly bothers me and I've thought about doing something to sort it out which includes either cutting down the existing cover or just putting an Audi TT-S engine cover in place. The latter costs about £70 including the 3 bolts.

There's part of me that says "it's only 70 quid, a mere bagatelle to what you've already spend you idiot" and then the other part of me that says, "do you really want to spend £70 on an engine cover? Really?"

Is there any positive advantage other than looks? I've been told the TT cover won't necessarily protect the coil packs from water either (not that much water gets under there).

Engine covers seem to be a recent thing with cars. I guess they help keep noise down and make it look neater, but I can't think that they do much else.

Well no I can't either, although it might help keep oil off the engine if I have to top up in a high wind.

If you can sort one inexpensively I'd do it purely for aesthetics. Looks so much neater with one.
