VAG radios

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Anyone here who knows if all the VAG's radios/cd players/sat nav units fit other models than they're made for? Like, does an Audi radio fit in my Yeti?

An Audi one might be a different shape, but a VW should fit providing you can get a fascia - most VW head units are the same size/shape as a Columbus.

Thanks!

What about the Skoda units, to they fit in other models? Sorry if the question looks lame, but I really have no idea about these things. Just want to swap my Blues radio with one with possibilities for an ipod and bluetooth (iphone), without having to pay 1000 £. Lots of secondhand VAG radioes here, but hardly any specifically for the Yeti.

I have a VW RCD 310 DAB unit in my Octavia. Other than the different shape (I originally had a Stream MP3) meaning I had to get a new fascia (all of £6 from a dealer), it went straight in, no issues. :)

However, note that the VW units usually glow red / white, not green. I've not found it a problem, but it's all a question of personal taste really.

Not familiar with the Yeti/Blues combination...........got a picture? ;)

You'll definately need a new fascia then. That shape is usually Stream/Stream MP3/Bolero (wider at the top than the bottom). I would humbly submit that you see if you can get them and how much new fascias are for the Yeti.

You don't have to have a VAG all-in-one either. If that head unit has the Quadlock connector on it, you could easily fit a separate bluetooth kit now. (I have a Nokia CK7W in my Octy.) Connected in through the Quadlock means you shouldn't have to do anything extra when you decide on which head unit to get.

As for the iPhone, I fitted an MDI kit to my RCD310. I use it with a USB stick, but there is an iPhone cable available as well. Complete control of music through the head unit, without problems. (I got the kit from 3 different ebay sellers, for less than £100). The kit should also charge the iPhone too. I always find this useful over streaming bluetooth.

After that, you can pick almost any VAG unit that takes your fancy: Bolero, Columbus, Amundsen......all you'd need to do is sort out the fascia. ;)
