Electric Window Puzzle

Featured Replies

Hi, me again. Spent another fruitless day trying to get electric windows working. I had downloaded some circuit diagrams to try and help but I am still none the wiser.

Here is the issue and what I have found, hopefully someone brighter than me can help.

Both passenger and drivers windows will go down but not up. They will go down from both passenger and drivers door switches, also if you hold the key in the open position for 2 seconds.

They will not go up from either passenger or drivers switches or if you hold key in closed position.

I have removed motors from door to eliminate mechanism and still the same.

I have connected motors directly to battery and they go both ways absolutely fine.

Everything else electrically works on the car, I have also disconnected battery for an hour to see if that helps. Battery is fine and alternator working correctly. I am testing windows with engine running.

On the passenger switch there are 3 wires. Blue (live), Brown (which connects to the blue wire on switch operation, Green (live for bulb when lights are on). If I connect a tester I find the blue is live when ignition is on, Brown is earthed when switch is neutral. I cut the brown wire and connected tester in series. On switch operation (down) current is approx 1.5 and on (up) approx 0.5. I am guessing there is a resistor in the switch and it is this that operates a relay in the control module to switch the live and earth going to the motor.

I have disconnected control module printed circuit board from the top of the motor and both connectors going into the motor are earthed, on operation of down one of them changes to 13.5V, but on operation of up nothing happens. When you operate down you can hear thr relay click, but on up nothing at all.

Please advise if anyone has any other checks as I am reluctant to purchase 2 new motors @£100 if that will not fix the issue. Very confused as I find it hard to belive both control modules have the same issue, unless this is a common fault? The only moving part is the relay and that works for down.

I bought the car with the fault and have no background as to if they went together or if one packed up first then the other later.

Really appreciate any advice.

Hi, anyone had chance to look at htis please, I would like to try and get sorted at weeknd if poss. Cheers

My widows didn't work for months then snap they worked! Wtf lol you tell me I've no idea haha

You checked all the fuses? I had similar issues (windows sort of working, but I can't remember specifics) and it turned out on the fuses was blown - there's 2 or 3 for the window system, but just one dying kills bits of it off.
