Chemical Guys Wooly Mammoth

Featured Replies

I'm considering buying one of these. I've watched a couple of You Tube videos...its HUGE! The videos only show it being used on the bonnet and the roof...very impressive, but how on earth do you manage such a large cloth on the vertical panels?

I fold mine for the sides of the car

AND

I have an old spin drier in the garage

It really cant be wrung out very easily

However...Its the best drying towel Ive ever had!!

The towel can be used in various different processes and it will all be down to your personal preference, some prefer to 'pat' the paintwork and some prefer to drag the towel along the paintwork.

When doing vertical panels the towel needs to be folded and if your paintwork has been decontaminated and protected well then you should never need to 'ring' your towel out.......... :rain:

I'd also consider the chemical guys beluga towel it's even bigger than the mammoth and does a better job of drying IMO. I also have a mammoth towel and find it keeps shedding bits of fluff all other my car which is annoying

I found the opposite, now there is so much water beeding on the car that the towels are wetter.

Maybe you meant just the verticals panels, and if so, then yes there is a lot less water here.

Cheers

You should really wash all your towels before you use them? Once it's been washed once, this won't happen again.......

Nope, if your car is protected then the water will sheet off meaning there is less to dry?

I would also suggest the use of a drying aid to reduce the amount of water left on each panel........

It's probably me doing it wrong then, I use a pressure washer to rinse not a hose. It has Exo on so I haven't been using a QD since applying this at end of July. Before I used C2 and then C2 diluted as a QD.

If you have a variable end on your pressure washer then turn it onto a more hose like setting to sheet the water off the paintwork, if not then you can easily rig up an open ended hose to help..........:)

If you have Exo on then C2 as your drying aid will help for sure.......

Ok thanks for info

What do you mean by `drying aid`?

all towels imo should be washed first

the best thing to wash them in is car shampoo but only use a drop or non bio without fabric softener or conditioner of any type

anything that has a softener will affect how well it picks up water

its been washed and still does it

Are you washing the drying towel on it's own or with a Lambswool Wash Mitt for example? Are you sure it's not off other towel's or Mitts?

What do you mean by `drying aid`?

Worth having a look at one of the following links, you will notice after the machine polishing stage, we take the car back outside and rinse it down, then we apply a misting of Megs Last Touch over each panel:

(Fellow Briskoda member's motor shown as an example)

Megs Last Touch is one example of a Drying Aid that will sheet water on the surface and allow you to dry the car without leaving streaks behind also........... :)

So, are you saying that any Quick Detailer (I have AG Rapid Detailer in the garage) can be used as a `drying aid? and is it just a case of spraying it over the car after rinsing and before drying?

Correct but some QD's are better than other's and your better off using a bulk buy product as you will use a lot of the product each time you want to dry the car........;)

Well, took delivery of my `WM` yesterday and immediately gave it a quick wash as recommended.

Have a few little questions if I may:

1. It has been suggested to me that its a good idea to give the car a light spray of AG Aqua Wax or QD while its still wet after a wash. This will of course result in the WM being very lightly impregnated with wax or QD. Is that going to do it any harm?

2. Being as I'm only ever going to me drying a clean car, will the WM ever need washing again?

3. Which would you say was the quickest drying method, `Pat dry` or `Wipe Dry`?

Many thanks.

Mike.

1) No as you will wash the towel after you have used it......

2) You should wash it after every use to ensure that no dirt is on the towel......

3) This is entirely your preference, just like using AG products if your preference..........;)

Well...I've just used my Wooly Mammoth for the very first time and what a fab piece of kit. Being in a very hard water area, I have to dry the car swiftly to avoid the dreaded water marks. I managed to dry the whole car in about 3 minutes...only needing to go back with a smaller towel to dry the tight areas like the door handles. Very impressed and would recommend everyone to try one.

As stated above using something like Megs Last Touch while drying will reduce your issues with the hard water drying and leaving water marks........:)
