Test Drove a Fab vRS and i like it.

Featured Replies

Alright.

As i mentioned a few days back i was test driving a vRS today.

Nice car. This is the first diesel i have driven and its superb. I was amazed by the acceleration at high speed in 4th 5th and 6th. It flew along. Even had some fun with a guy in a fairly meaty Audi by moving into the left lane and flooring it along the bypass. Hope he was shocked.

Anyway this and the Clio 182 are the top of my list each for different reasons. They both do different things very well. I'm probably swayed to the 182 at this moment in time but have a nagging feeling that the Fab is for me. Could any of you out there answer a few queries i have please.

Re-mapping. The salesman talked about remmaping ECU's and the fact that the warranty is not voided. Is this the case? 180bhp was the figure he was quite sure about. It supposedly has a wee switch near the steering wheel. Would this affect my insurance as i would probably be inclined to tell them?

been looking thru the forum and google and stumbled on this. Are the companies who do the re-mapping thing REVO and JABBA?

Any one got a link to a company in or around Edinburgh who do the work?

Cheers for your advice in advance.

Heres hoping i might be a fully fledged member soon.

i used to have a 172 now a vrs that may tell you something chavyboy had a 172 now a vrs and a few others too :)

remaps will void your skoda warranty but the dealer may offer to cover it them selfs but make sure you get it in writing first !!! insurance it will go up yes infact some companys will refuse to cover you with mods and its not worth not not telling them.

revo, amd, jabba all remap the fabia as do others the revo is a switchable map but the switch isnt cheap really.

If you're up North, there's Star Performance who tune PD130 blocks and they're probably not too far away.

But as the wise rabbit said, get the "we'll cover your warranty if you get it remapped" in writing :) And I would always declare it to the ins co.

Definitely get that in writing, most dealers will NOT cover you on clutch and engine/turbo for example.

Definitely check insurance FIRST - you cannot afford not checking it ;) Check what the increase in premium will work out as.

It sure makes the car fly based on what people are saying here.

I had a 172 and hated it for its crap ride and build quality and I can honestly say I haven

oh and him too he had one :D

this could be like group therapy we can all come clean about owning clio's lol

i am starting to see a trend here.

One comment that is VERY common here is to do with, French build quality being questionable.

hhmmmm comming from a C2 GT to a furby vRS, I'd have to agree with that, its wierd to drive a car wherre the whole inside DOESN'T actually rattle! lol....

Wondering when the French car quality decline really started, it must have been in the last 5 years or so (electrics aside as that's always been a joy with those things).

My Renault 21 and several Pug 205s were sound cars. The 205s were very basic but they worked well :D

one thing i did notice when driving on the motorway was the sound of whistling wind coming from the front windows. i checked to see if these were closed and they were. does anyone else notice this in their furby

I had a '95 306DT - fantastic car to drive, handling and steering were excellent and the engine (for the time) was great. The build quality was just shoddy however. It rattled and creaked and groaned like an old bus. The electric windows and sunroof felt like they could fail at anytime and the dashboard lights pulsed in time with the indicators. The panels were tinny and showed the slightest impact of a car door from the supermarket mum's. Got fed up of it crumbing around me so went for a Bora panzerwagen with it's interior hewn from granite and panels made from thick stuff. The Fabia isn't as well finished as the VW but it's leagues ahead of the non-VAG competition. I just wish it had blue dashboard lights!

If you keep an ear out at 2000rpm you'll hear the turbo whistle too, esp in higher gears where it's more noticable, sounds quite cool.

the clio does that wing mirror whistle much more than the fabia

Speaking of winds - anyone notice how badly the Fabia gets buffeted about in the wind (at motorway speeds ;)), or is it just mine?

Chris

mines fine but i suppose i may not have had as much wind as you.

do you get much violent wind ???

Maybe it's cos my seats aren't so snug, wind can escape in all directions?
