How do you scrap a car these days

Featured Replies

Mmmm.... I have an M reg Rover 214sli abandoned in Stoke on Trent which has a blown engine (Head Gasket Failure + xxk worth of damage, warped head etc. usual Rover c***) :grumpy:

After having mad ideas on 220turbo and Vi / vvc trackday secret weapon conversions i've decided it's really only good for breaking. This descision was hard as it has no rust, interior is mint and it's an all round pretty nice motor  (who said that ?)

Any ideas on how I get it rid ? Will I have to pay a scrappy, will they pick up for a small charge etc. ?

It's got all the electrics (sunroof, mirrors, windows etc.... i'm going to cry ;) ) and is mint... It really breaks my heart to scrap it but sticking a new engine in just isn't economical.

p.s On my travels I have found

http://forums.mg-rover.org/

and

http://rovertech.net/

great resources for Rover stuff :)

You could try your local council, I know ours will take scrap cars away BUT you have to pay. I think my brother paid 35 to get rid of his old cavalier when the cambelt went. As its a non-runner you will most likely have to pay anyone to take it away.

They have a free collection service around here now due to the ammount of abandoned cars.

Why not sell it on ebay for spares

Cheers Manny, I was half prepared for that. It's just that I know it's got loads of good bits on it that as an ex maestro owner I know I would appreciate (switches, seats etc, wood and rubber insert on the dash etc...) but I don't have a drive to break it on and then weigh the chasis+a tank of water+all my tin cans in :o

The money really isn't a factor... it just seems such a waste of a mint shell that's just not economic to stick a recon engine in :thumbdwn:

i'll look into that geez thanks :D

Flog it on ebay for parts?

I had the same dilema not so long ago with a Rover 100 belonging to one of SWMBO's best mates. She had just passed her test, just bought the car and it spat oil infested water everywhere. I took pity on her and fixed it up (skimmed head, full clean up) even to me it cost around
