Think I need new bushes

Featured Replies

I think my bushes are well overdue and could do with the solid/updated bushes !

It feels quite unsettled even on slow corners (if not more so), practically clunky just as it drops round corners with dips etc

I am trying to get it arranged with Unit 18.

If they are busy would there be anywhere else qualified to do this well / to their standard (besides just taking it the dealers) in Northants ?

What sort of cost (dealers, vs other independant), there is an older cost on the Unit 18 page as some kind of guidance. I would expect dealers would probably be twice that and probably expect them to quote something like £400?

Also on a slight tangent has anyone noticed when accelerating a sound (for what of any other way to put it) that is like wasps buzzing aggressively in a can when accelerating heavily?

I've had if for a while and don't really put it to being a fault more of an observation as the car otherwise goes pretty well, but I could be wrong.

Just wondered if anyone knew what it was and if it was anything to watch out for.

Thanks very much

Wasps buzzing... Boost leak?

Wasp noise could be a leak from the exhaust and or gasket on the exhaust.

hi dominorising,

i've just had my wishbone bushes done, just put the new parts back on from tps, good friend of a brother-in-law, charged me 40notes. picking car up 2moz, skoda wanted £169ish just for the o/s/f.

Cheers for that dudes

I reckon the solid bush will probably be the best money I could put into the car to make it "just like it was before" - or even better !

May even be a foundation for me to put more money into the car, anyway its not like its owed me anything for the last 6 years - problem free motoring.

On the buzzing:

I would find it hard to believe it was a boost problem as it does go well, mind you that said, on the days I've noticed it I've been slightly conscious it may have been slightly sluggish - but the car was going well today but I couldnt particularly hear anything - maybe a link then ?

Could it be intermittent if it was a boost problem like pipes coming apart though ? I find that difficult to believe. I thought it might have been to do with the fuel pump moreso to be honest, as it kinda sounded like that sort of thing, y'know a bit like someone sucking hard through a straw towards the bottom of any empty can

The exhaust and gasket - now that could be an idea. I did have one issue a good while ago of putting petrol in but it should have been almost completely drained and then filled with diesel and I didn't drive it / leave the forecourt

The car does start to sound lounder nowadays from the engine/exhaust but I put that down to age and thought it could be leaking from the backbox which is something I was planning to have checked over when I do the bushes, so maybe up on ramps this may be more obvious - cheers !

Can anyone vouch for vrs northampton as any good out of interest ? They supposedly do servicing, not sure how good...

Had my bushes done yesterday, really happy with the results, its like a different car! I didn't notice the deterioration over time but now I defo know how bad they where. Handles better accelerates smoother, well impressed

How much did it cost you for supplying and fitting the bushes?

Cost me 150 from my local garage, for the 4 prong octavia bushes. Two prong ones wear quickly apparantly.

AH mine are still in one piece then...they are 2 prong but thought they had worn on one down complete lol

I'm sure it would be better though even comparing them without wear, if they are more solid

Did they re align your wheels after doing the bushes?

Not everyone gets on with the cupra bushes.

It's said they can increase vibration in the cabin.

I have 4 web ones in mine at the moment.

Sturdier than OE Factory fit 2 webs but not excessively so.

For how I drive they are fine.

I am booked in with Unit 18 now.

I will double check about the bushes, don't mind either way too much but it does sound like 4 web is the best compromise

Do you happen to know the part number for the uprated bush ? Its a Fabia uprated bush you have on yours ?

Actually I'm confused now, Unit 18 I think quote on the site here for Seat bushes....presumably something like this (rather than Cupra or is this the same thing)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-POLO-FOX-FABIA-IBIZA-CORDOBA-ROOMSTER-2-LOWER-WISHBONE-ARM-BUSHES-/330651314576?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda|Model%3AFabia|Cars+Type%3A1.9+TDI+RS&hash=item4cfc5aa990

Then there is the poly bushes, which is best ? lol

No I don't have the part number, sorry. They are the same as are fitted to

Octy 2 if that's any help. It's what I have on mine, I am running slightly stiffer

than standard sports shocks and springsand despite the harder life they lead

due to this they are holding up well.

You can just buy the bushes.

They are the new/modified "X" type bushes, part No 1K0407183E.

Bill.

Luckily someone else had the answer in another thread

Sweeeeeet cheers dude you the man

I think this may be the same as what Unit 18 already use as this IS also a Seat bush ?....unless they use Cupra bushes.....

I am not sure what the difference is TBH

Ah, this is Cupra, so this isn't voided at all, I think I got ya...

The original bushes as fitted at the factory only had one support running through them as per below:

They realised these were always failing and so released the revised bushes. These are what you will get if you purchase replacement bushes from your dealer. They no longer supply the original type.

I have these fitted and they're great. Much better than the original bushes, and no increase in vibrations.

They look like below:

The other option is the solid Cupra bush which is why you sometimes get excess vibrations through the cabin.

Here's sams explanation of it all

Cheers, got it

The solid bush will obviously last and last and the firmest but a compromise on comfort...I think the X will do for me too, thanks for the help !
