Hello everyone i am new here.

Got to look for a new car as my mint Clio Cup was violated by a Nissan Primera.

As my brother works for Bentley (VW) i can get 15% of the vRS.

Just wanted to know what you think of yours and mods you have done.

Stuck on the colour at the moment. Black or Yellow

Ouch, thats a sickener, sorry about the Clio mate.

As for the vRS, well i'm sure you wouldnt regret buying one. I'll leave the mod talk to the others as mine is still standard :)

And i'll stay out of the colour arguments, as mine is silver, and therefore i'm above all that :D

And welcome to the site

I thought that the Clio Cup was supposed to be a lightweight version ;)

Re the Octavia - do a quick search of the forums and you will find all you need to know.

There are several ex-Impreza Turbo owners here (me included) so that might help you decide ?

I rate the Octavia as like my Audi A4's in build etc only more fun.

Are you going to be able to get insurance for one? (Group 16 if unmodified). I assume from what you have said that the other driver was to blame, but presumably you have to make a claim on your own insurance - which could count against you.

Get yellow! All the other colours dont suit the car.

Sorry about your Clio - you must be gutted. I'm certain you'll find the Octavia to be a completely different car! Have you test driven one yet?

If I'm honest, I was delighted with my vRS until I'd had it for a few months. I'd had a 1.0 VW Polo, and I was thrilled with all the extra power. Now that I'm used to it, I'm definately going to have to get it remapped. That's definately the first port of call. You can have it done for anywhere between

Is that you John Walsh?

Do you have any inkling why we have user names??? If Briskoda members wish to reveal their full names, they are free to do so - and some do. But if they don't do so, please respect that fact.

Insurance is not a problem as it's the same qroup as the clio 16D and they will insure me with no extra cost on the RS.

I have taken one for a test drive and quite impressed with the performance as the Clio was a bit of an animal with nearly 190 bhp in a light car with no traction control and group n clutch. (4 tyres in 3000 motorway miles)

Managed to salvage my BMC filter and all the ICE though.

Hi - just do it - you won't regret it.....only 1 colour tho - and thats Black Magic

Welcome to Briskoda

agree with Dave that there is only one colour - however it is Yellow not Black !!!!

Seconded! (Here we go again....rolleyes.gif )

Monkey Boy,

Shame about the Clio :(

Nice little motors, quite tempted myself, although I'll pass on the front end mods you've made :D

The Octavia is moddable (is that really a word?), it just depends on what you want the car for ie do you want it as a fast refined cruiser, a back road stormer, a track toy or in my case a Ring toy. Once you know that you can decide what mods you want and/or what model you want.

Most common is the re-map. Power between 210 and 240. Usual induction kits exhausts etc available. Then there is suspension, again, what do you want it for. Same again for brakes.

Black is the only true colour for a RS :D

You might also want to look and see if you can find a 4x4 hatch.

Jon

PS Denis you have PM

Welcome on board MB - I remember seeing your clio on another forum - eek, still, you walked away which is most important.

As Jon said, there are a lot of possibilities, depending on what you want from the car. Decide where you enjoy your car most, then mod \ buy accordingly. As a general rule of thumb, the circuit \ A road stormers find the RS more suitable, the wet \ muddy B road blasters prefer the 4x4 - both fantastic cars just with slightly different focus.

Oh, and yellow, if you go for an RS, it has to be yellow. :D

Buy the car you want & just avoid the colours you dont want, their are loads of black ones around, you could almost say common but they tend to stand out less than yellow ones, ie a speeding yellow car is more obvious than black.

As for mods, engines are the same 1.8T lump used by Audi,VW & Seat so in theory & cheque book permitting, anything you have seen done to these makes can be done to a Skoda & lots of the bits are also interchangable.

As Jon said, also try a 4x4 if you can find one, I chose this because I had come from a Subaru STI & prefer 4 wheel drive & I chose Silver because the price was right

Also ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS at changing from Subaru (read money pit) to Skoda

Stuart

To Add,

Reversing is a pain, rear view vis is next to useless as the boot is high so get parking sensors or buy an estate as they are much easier to park.

I havent got parking sensors but will be fitting them

Stuart

Monkey Boy, my opinion is it's a fast practical car with good handling and is well screwed together, unlike the majority of French cars.... no offence intended.

It won't be as fast as your Cleo Cup standard, but there

You want to try it with a full decat exhaust if you want people to look and it still makes me laugh to see them trying to spot which car is making all the pops and banks, even in Sainsburys car park :D

Yes, get a vRS (or a 4x4 !), the most fun you can buy new for under 15 grand.

Black or yellow, hmmm, I went for black but having seen some yellow ones recently they certainly stand out a lot more. Depends if you want to get noticed or not .... :)

Black is admittedly more common, looks great when it's clean but hard to keep that way !

Bad luck.

IMO you can't beat the chuckability of a french hot-hatch, but the vRS is still a treat. It confuses the general populace (which is fun), is well put together, handles nicely, rides beatifully (IMO), and it's practical for the family man, too :)

The vRS is heavy, tho. It will feel completely different to what you're used to.

Even at list price the car is good value, but getting that discount you'll be laughing!

Did the Primera hit you? Was it a new shape one? If so I wouldn't be surprised if the driver was merely trying to adjust the heating... (what a terrible, terrible car the Primera is)

Regards,

Mark

ps Welcome!

The Primera was overtaking stationary traffic to get down a junction on my left. Pitty i came round the corner before he got there. Was a newish shape Primera. I got out with slight burns on my arms from the airbag and a bloody nose when the airbag hit my glasses. The Nissan had over

Airbags, I'm sure they do improve safety but those burns sound nasty. I walked away from a head on collision at 45mph in my old Focus without a scratch, the car was repaired for about
