cant decide....vrs or 225 megane

Featured Replies

I won't mention how many I've had but let's just say it'll be triple figure's, and I bet I could've brought a decent house with the money I've spent on them :(

Cavalier gsi's were my car of choice back in the day, I'd have a cavalier turbo tomorrow if I could find a good one.

Snap I would probably have no mortgage

I had a GSI turbo and a 4x4 none turbo, swapped my 405Mi16v for one. regretted the swap actually mi16v was far better, not on the Turbo though , that was stage 2 and was very aggresive. I would have another one actually but keeping on top of the rust was a battle.

oh Mark, you didnt have an orion....tell me no! they are literally only owned by ch*vs round here, if you ever do see them, which is not very often!

sorry to say.................yes a 1.6i Ghia(does that still count as ch*vy) as the Ghia was slightly up market you know....

Swapped that for Sierra 2.8 4x4 in the end...

63 at 33, lmfao!!

when did you have an allegro?

about ten years ago haha, was quite cool and retro, had 2 months mot and tax and was £25, so i thought id put the miles on that, went everywhere

an allegro, now thats from the time forgot, why did they make so many of those and the princess ...???

Fixed! :giggle:

Aaaaah, the MG Maestro Turbo. Possibly the most stolen british car in history. Could open it with a nail file in 1 second, and start it in another 10. But damned quick for it's time.

Uno turbo... as far as I remember, it desperately wanted another gear. A bit like the MG Turbo Metro really. Small, soft, deadly in an accident and desperately needed a different ratio box. At least the Metro was a bit more reliable. And despite the fact that under the plastic it was still a crappy Metro, it looked far better than the rather naff looking Uno Turbo. (Or at least, I thought so).

I'd rather have another Strada Abarth 130. Now THAT was fun. Even if you did have to tweak the carbs every 50 miles... (wop wop wop wop wop wop wop)

Edit: Or maybe a 130 SuperMirafiori... ugly, but fun

oh well the ghia you say, well thats a different story lol! those ford 4x4s were som much better than the cak vauxhall offered at the time.

dont think i have seen an allegro since i was about ten, when we had one lol!

old boy had died it was in his garage. i proceeded to make sure it was finished

I hope you mean finished as in, put out of it's misery...

I'll never forget my first big outing in my first car (Metro 1.3HLE as is happens). We ventured down to a mate's parents holiday home in Minehead. Another bandmate brought along his 1.0 Allaggro, and started up Porlock Hill. I say started, as he didn't even make halfway up. ;)

Haha that's about right. I did have a metro actually, why were they designed with massive gearbox whine in 1st 2nd and 3rd

lol think he meant the old boy had died in it as the seats were more like armchair and probably he forgot where he was....

Fait Strada Arbath, yep strange looking but quick, Now I also liked the Fiat supermifiori, Which one was the 2 door sporty one the 130 or 131. My mate had one in bright green with black plastic arches looked quite nice

remember the fiat X19 kind of looked like a smaller Triumph TR7..

BL were quite fond of their somewhat straighter cut gears...

The one thing I loved about the Metro was the "pull turbo"... (that's manual choke cable to all the whippersnappers). Gotta love them old SU carbs. ;)

X19 was great looking, and could've been a classic.

Unfortunately, they dropped in the most anaemic engine in it, that history could provide.

Such a waste...

Yeah foot down and pull. Weeeeeeee.

Great suspension on them too, always looked like they had one wheel with huge camber shim and 1 coilover

that was a Robin reliant no...lol..

sorta gains would you see out of a vrs with decat, exhaust, panel filter? and a map? and what else would you have to do to get to about 230 ish?

not much actually, to keep consistant 230bhp should really be fitting a better Intercooler as the std ones can't keep charge temps down to keep consistant boost.

maybe better intake?

ah ok. seems like a good target......what do you guys think of the s3? older shape?

Double the price but a nice motor!

theres a few on the audi forums for a good price, so debating if i could afford to run one haha!!

if there is debate, it usually means no you cant. A case of if you have to ask its probably not worth it.

Go cheaper and actually be able to afford to enjoy it.

very good point to be honest.

It is a very good point, years ago I had a Janspeed XR4i, was a fantastic car, but could only afford to run it for a year, and it cost so much more in the first place. Sometimes it is better to buy what on paper looks to be a cheaper motor, when in reality they can be just as good and a real bundle of fun to own.

For what its worth, I've driven my friends megane 225 - nice car, drives good, but does it go wrong a lot - he has his own parking place at the Renault garage. I can honestly say my VRS is the best car I have owned as a good OVERALL package - I love it to death the amount of different ways it is so above most other cars.

Only thing is it makes you think how good the next car has to be when you come to change for something else.

Served my time on fiats, the uno turbo was in its prime then,I had just passed my test then and thought they were rapid, they had a habit of eating gearboxes and cracking exhaust manifolds amongst other things,we use to get a couple of 130tc stradas in as well, working on fiats, there was never a dull moment,we use to get a lancia y10 turbo in as well, only one I ever seen, never seen another, the 2.0 16v tipo had just come out then as well, thought they had a good induction noise as standard, they actually went ok from what I remember.

Same running costs as an octy vrs mk1!

Tax is the same, mpg would be slightly worse than a vrs, and insurance a tad dearer but wouldnt be much in the 2!

Matches what I've seen of these cars

Bloke down the road has one, and since it blow it head gasket about yr ago, its' never work right since.

Even before the head failed, he was always worried that something was going to fail, he never gave it the beans.

Like all modern french cars, they have been thoughtfully & carefully designed to consume maximium man-hours to work on.
