i tell you what i had that i thought was quick in the day, far to quick for its handling to take

MG maestro, in black, red trim, rotten as hell (made it lighter) rapid for the time

You could buy my octy vrs

Sorry rapid, only rapid coz most of the metal fell off or rusted........lol

Now the MG Maestro Turbo was quick.

I had a Mazda 323 Turbo 4x4 which was very quick but build quality very poor.

and i could look it over, check its all on the up and up, you know us scottish for our long pockets and short arms :giggle:

when i say look it over............ i mean for a price

right dude, the vrs with a map and a rear arb, will be a much nicer car all round and similar spec to the megane.

Plus i would image cheaper?

def more reliable!

love the quote about being thrown together!

id imagine with a map and few other bits itd do quite well 40mph pick up hey! what sorta price does a rarb cost? to be honest aslong as its quicker than my gti-6 id be happy. the build quality and reliability will be ace compared to the pug too haha!

lmao, lol they are a relic from the past!

talking of fast french cars, my mate mark who had about 15 cars, had a renault 21 turbo that was modded, and a renault 4 with a gordini engine in it and a racing clutch.

the 21 was epic, had leather, i remember him telling me about scoring some 'growler' on the back seat,

the 4 was just mad, it was seriously quick, but horrid due to the racing clutch, it hit you in the back evertime it screamed down the road...

happy days

Looked at a few bk in the day but preferred my 309. Mate had a 205 mi16 on throttle bodies, wrapped it round a tree cause it was to fast for him lol.

Got another mate with a 205 1.9 Dt that runs water meth and 13 sec quarters ;)

Only french cars I loved the 205 and 309GTi and 405. Great cars in their day. The 309 was actually better handling than to 205 and i had a Mi16v engine in mine. Also had a 405 Mi16v very understated car and quick. Blew my mates Renault 19 16v away.

Thats the one i had mate.....turbo, and yes most of metal was spread liberally all around torquay. I had a 323 3.0 v6 and i loved that, big money back then too, really held prices.

rear arb around 150, do that a remap, the dog bone mount, and some decent pads and tyres and you will have a nice useable car!

the mg turbo was quick, i remember

my car ownership count is an embarrassing 63 cars registered to me, not as a trader either. octy is the first i have kept for a time

the mg turbo was quick, i remember

yes they were, just did not turn very well.

I used to also love my series 1 RS Turbo.

63...nice!

so much for the scottish not liking to spend money, you prove em wrong bud!

I am nearly there 53 cars......I used to sell, swap all the time, once had a renault 5 turbo for less than 3 hours then swapped it for a 205GTi. My VRS is the longest car I have ever kept

series one turbo, now thats a car!

dude you have had some epic cars too haven't you!

had a car for 3 hrs, lmao, they were quick to 40ish, like the uno turbo, anyone remember them,

fecking fast, but like driving in a sardine tin...

ford escort van, fiesta finnesse, morris marina, bmw 325,323,318,518,525, nissan sunnyx2, audi coupe, peugeot 106 d, 405,205,309x2, volvo v40, v70, s40, 480 limited edition no 480 2.0, seat leon, toledo, ibiza, inca, austin, mni, meastro +the van with the perkins engine, allegro lime green, montego td.

The renault would have broken down 3 times on the way there, briefly being an absolute hoot

Yep Series 1 were great far better and handled better than the Series 2 as they were originally built for rallying so had fully adjustable front ARB, chamber , track control arms and a stiff suspension pack with great lsd. A perfect balanced handling car.

I had 2 of them and 1 Series 2. The Series 2 was literally a XR3i base with a turbo transplant so was under engineered and did not brake well at all. Don't get me started on the Ford Orion

yep remember the Uno turbo quick car, but blew up by the end of the road....lol

an allegro, now thats from the time forgot, why did they make so many of those and the princess in brown???

I loved my allegro, it was fun you hit the brakes and weight shifted the rear lifted and the front dipped aggressively however even though all this happened there was no appreciable reduction in speed, it was just a physics lesson on the effects of inertia. All the while pedestrians running screaming off the crossing saying "its an allegro quick get out the way"

I won't mention how many I've had but let's just say it'll be triple figure's, and I bet I could've brought a decent house with the money I've spent on them :(

The vrs was the longest I'd owned and probably the most reliable tbh. You won't go far wrong with a vrs, not the most fun or quickest car but I'd rather have one than the megane.

Cavalier gsi's were my car of choice back in the day, I'd have a cavalier turbo tomorrow if I could find a good one.

this is turning into a right 'good ol days' thread and im only 33............help
